Am I the only person disgusted by people who wear their shoes in their house? I lived in NYC and after walking through the dirty streets, taking the subway and stepping on who knows what, how can you take those nasty shoes in your house?

I go barefoot and I am amazed that so many Americans wear shoes in the house. Maybe it's a cultural thing, but that's nasty!!

No shoes in the house. I do make exception if already walked out the door and realized that I had forgotten something then I would do a quick dash into the house with my shoes on.

I hate shoes. If I'm at home (and not at my apartment for college) then I never wear my shoes inside, or outside for that matter. Where I grew up if you were going to play in the yard then why wear shoes? I did get a lot of bee stings though...

But when I was visiting my friend, (she has parents that both grew up in Mexico) I would go into her house and take off my shoes, and her mom would tell her to tell me (she only speaks Spanish) that they always wear their shoes inside b/c supposedly walking around barefoot causes menstrual cramps to be severe. It's never been a problem for me though, I thought it was pretty weird advice. But hey, to each his own.

Sorry to offend but I am in WV and it's a law that we go barefoot in the summer and pregnant all winter. Just kidding. We wear our shoes into the house and take them off. That is a straight shot from the car up the sidewalk and onto the porch then thru the sunporch, by then they are pretty clean. We have cold floors so I have eskimo boots to wear. And why do you spend your time being disgusted by what someone else does? Do you think they care what you think? I don't.

I go barefoot inside but it has nothing to do with dirt, I go barefoot everywhere, including in those subways and dirty streets! And my two cats walk in and out the house without ever wiping their feet. I really don't care, the shower, soap and a nail brush do well getting my feet clean and the vacuum cleaner does well with the carpet. I neither pick up my food with my toes nor do I eat off the floor. Don't fret so much about a little dirt.

Actually where I grew up, NOT wearing shoes in the house was considered low class. I've gotten past that. I generally take off my shoes when I come into the house and put on my slippers to walk around the house in. Now if I could just get my dog to wear shoes outside so she could take them off when she comes in, my house would be much cleaner.

well i personally DON'T wear shoes in my house and i agree the outside is dirty and wearing shoes in the house is disgusting because u don't know what you stepped on and tracked back into the house but some people chose to wear there shoes into their houses but they do clean the house maybe they don't want to show there feet because having feet stuck in shoes all day may be hard to smell let alone see in a room meant for peace and serenity
so they wear their shoes in the house but they choose what they want to do because i choose to go barefoot in a house.

I leave mine on around my house for a handful of reasons. Mainly I come and go during the day, so it is a matter of convenience most of the time. Also, I hate slippers but don't want my feet getting cold - my shoes keep my feet warm. I also hate stepping on stuff my nephews have left out. I guess ultimately it boils down to the fact that my carpet is fairly old and I don't mind taking the time to clean it every couple of days.

Of course, I would like to state that whenever I go over to someones house I always remove my shoes unless they tell me I can do otherwise. It's just good manners and shows people respect for their house.

I totally agree w/ you! I have never worn my shoes in the house, it is just weird! Stepping in weird stuff and all the gross nastys of the outdoors I just don't want in my house. I wear socks around the house but bare feet are nice too. So America take those shoes off!

I completely agree with you. I only go barefoot or in socks on the carpet, and that is our household rule (there are four of us). The streets, and sidewalks are disgusting, and the thought of bringing that into my home sickens me. Don't even get me started on people that walk barefoot outside, YUK!

Especially because I have children that play on the floor, or like to lay down on the floor (on top of blankets, and nap or watch television). I also only allow eating at the dinner table even in-between meal snacks. So there is no spotting on the carpet, and the floor stays clean this way. Some may call me a germ freak, but I call myself safe.
