Just an airline ticket, and something to drink /swallow so his ears will pop when they're supposed to. We flew to Walt Disney World with our granddaughter in December - no special papers. She sat in a regular seat next to me, with a seat belt and no car seat. (I do keep a note from her mother in my purse that gives me permission to authorize medical treatment in case of an emergency though.)

Your son will need a ticket for the flight (only children under the age of 2 can fly free in a parent's lap). No ID is necessary. I would suggest bringing a travel goody bag so that he can keep busy because you know a 2 year old won't take to sitting in a seat for very long unless he's occupied with something entertaining. Make sure there are changes of diapers and clothing with them on the plane. Snacks also help! (I know I'm not very fond of the "snacks" they provide on planes these days!)

They don't need any papers unless they are travelling out of the country. I do suggest that you bring something for them to suck on (pacifier, etc) during take off and landing as it will make it easier on their ears. Also, you should bring a car seat that is allowed to be used on airplanes (most are, check the owner's manual) and have them sit in that. Check the rules on carry-on luggage because you'll want to make sure they are occupied during the flight.

Not sure what the destination is but if he is flying with his aunt I would write out a document with your and/or your husband's signature stating that you give permission for your sister to take care of him and travel with her, and she has permission to administer any medicine or to take him to the hospital if needed. Also provide health insurance information as well as your name, addresss, phone number (work, cell, home) and your husband's contact information.
If your child will be going out of the country then also put passport information etc.

I would call the airlines and ask them specificly. I would definitely send him with his birth certificate, a medical release form so that if something happens while he is gone his aunt can get medical attention for him, and a note saying that she has custody of him during his vacation. (I doubt the last is necessary, but it might make you feel better.)
