My sister has twins with upset stomaches. She heard that you could give them jello (un-frigerated) to drink in replace of pedalite.

That would be about like giving them flavored sugar water. Not really a great ideal when you are trying to keep the little ones hydrated. I say don't risk making a tummy ache worse just give them the pedalite. It has electrolytes that they need right now!

Even if they eat the solid jello - which might be more appealing, it counts as fluids. I wouldn't have the drink it as liquid - that can be a little harsh. The solid jello will take a little time to eat and digest and may not come back up as quickly.

The key with an upset stomach and/or vomiting is small amounts of clear fluids frequently. A teaspoonfull of flat gingerale or coca cola or sprite or even water taken every ten minutes will work, as will popsicles or sherbet - because they're slower to melt, so they're not getting a big mouthful of fluids all at once.

I wouldn't give any milk, orange juice or grapefruit juice - the juices can be rough on stomachs because of their acidity, and milk isn't as easily digested.

Pedialite is so expensive for starters.. I have always given my daughter jello water or Gatorade. Your best bet on the jello water is to buy the sugar free, it tastes just as good as the sweetened. My daughter always hated the taste of pedialite because it tastes so salty, where the jello water tastes like koolaide. I am a CNA and we also use it at work if someone is on clear liquids for the flu and things like that. Also maybe try some watered down seven up.

My twins would not drink or eat for almost a week with a stomach virus. They HATE pedialyte so I did Gatorade. There is also a mixture you can make that consists of OJ, salt, and baking soda, but I am not sure of the measurements. I never tried it, but the hospital gave me the recipe for them. I tried the Jello water, but they wouldn't drink it either and I would dilute it quite a bit b/c it is so sweet.

If the kids are picky, let them drink what they will drink... ANYTHING to keep fluids in them especially if they are losing the fluids through vommiting or diarhea.

Personally i would NOT. Jello is nothing but SUGAR. She would only be giving them a super sugary drink. Which wil NOT help their upset stomach. If you must I would give them some gatorade diluted with water. Dilute it half and half. It works just as well as the pedalite. if they won't drink that. Then i would give them a very little bit of gingerale. it really helps with a upset stomach. As does a cracker or 2.

Are you serious? No you can not substitue Jello for Pedialyte especially if they are becoming dehydrated.

Household beverages do not meet medical guidelines for helping prevent dehydration due to diarrhea in kids. Generally they are too high in carbohydrate (sugar) and too low in sodium. The most important treatment for mild diarrhea is to immediately offer an electrolyte solution at the first signs of diarrhea, which will maintain electrolyte balance and normal hydration.

Why avoid sugar? Household beverages containing too much sugar may make diarrhea worse.

Sodium is an electrolyte, which aids in the absorption of liquid into the body and helps to retain the liquid absorbed.

Jell-O consists of four basic ingredients:

gelatin
water
sugar or artificial sweetener and artificial flavors
food coloring

So please do not substitue one for the other.

I think it would be fine. Bland foods/Clear liquids is good to give when a kid is sick.
