I will not go into the reasons why I do not believe in God. I can go on and on about evolution, big bang theory, science in general, etc.. but I will not. I am no scientist. So when asked: "do you believe in God?" I say no. Not that I question his existence, I just don't believe in him/her/being. This is why:

I sit in silence, overwhelmed with grief, not for myself (although there is plenty for me to gripe about), but for the immense suffering in this world; now and throughout history. I think to myself: "how is this possible?", "what can I do?", "I'm tired...I don't want to live.....there is no point...."

God all these years I've prayed to you, without any response, at times my requests have been selfish I know, but I always kept hope alive, my grandma always said "he doesn't respond but he is listening", So please I only ask for one thing this night, I am on my knees pleading, crying...please save me....Nothing but:

Silence.......Silence.........Silence......

I'm atheist myself, and if your atheist the question isn't "Why doesn't God love me" It should be something akin to "Why doesn't the tooth fairy still come visit me". As this question has proved, if God doesn't do as one wishes, it's not in his plan. If he does do what you pray for its 'God's Mercy' when in fact, it's like that old trick while flipping a coin' "Heads I win, tails you lose". What you should do is ignore all these people who are saying God whispers and all that junk and find or make something in your life that will make you happy, they have been right about one thing, helping others can be very rewarding and satisfying. As for the theological argument, C.S. Lewis, author of the Chronicle's of Narnia said it best in the book 'Mere Christianity' I believe it was in he says that God does not help because he does not have the power, he gave us free will for good or bad, he can't change that. Anything bad that happens to us has happened due to the free will of ourselves and others, if one deserves it or not, that means nothing. Free will is absolute, force ones will, all free will is gone, it's a very delicate thing. Either way, I hope you find happiness.

Don't worry at all the Lord God Almighty is returning soon with great power, and when he comes to save you, and not just you, but basically come for the whole world, you won't even have time to be thinking about pain, or suffering, you understand ?? ... It's just crazy in this world, that's how it is, you gotta be a man, stand strong, and don't lose focus, but honestly, in time there's gonna be a big change for " All The People In The World that Suffer ... A time for the Good and the Bad, you'll see "

I think I detect two major flaws in your relationship with God...belief or no.

1) What you ask for is likely not in concert with God's plans....thus the answer is 'No' and you find that frustrating, which is understandable.

2) Regarding those things you've asked for that are in concert with God's plans - you've likely been waiting for some grand display of fulfillment. Well, that doesn't normally happen. What likely has happened is that opportunities arose for fulfillment that you either missed entirely or rejected out of hand.

If God wants you to win the lottery this week, you may find a dollar bill on your way to the 7-11....but you still have to use it to buy the ticket. If you simply put the dollar in your pocket, or buy a slurpee, you've blown your opportunity. How are you to know, you don't....that's were faith and trust in God comes into play. BTW: the likelihood that God wants you to win the lottery is extremely small....it is just an illustration.

I think things are as they are because there are serious things we need to work out in order to grow/understand/evolve, etc. Yeah it's be great if God said "pop - everyone's nice and happy" but I think the old saying, we can't know good without evel, light without dark, etc. really holds water.
I like the saying "God/Spirit comforts us when we're shaken, and shakes us when we're comfortable."
And I think our issues and problems have deeper and scarier roots than most people want to explore. Thus praying to God for an easy out without even looking into what caused all of our major pain and trouble, is not gonna work.
There's a ramble.

He has responded, but you have not heard him, he speaks in a still small voice, so you must find a way to hear him, because he is constantly talking to you, to say that he does not speak to you, is ridiculous, he speaks 24/7, you have just not tuned your ears to him. And why are you worrying about the worlds suffering anyways, that was Jesus burden and he took that on when he died on the cross, let it go, its making it hard for you to hear from God. There are other ways he speaks to you as well, in dreams, thru people, thru your life experiences, oviously you have not been aware of it. Your grandmother was a depressed and wrong women, WHEN i WAS AN ATHEIST, I COULD STILL FEEL HIM AROUND ME, so I knew he was still there, even tho I refused to believe he existed, you will have to learn to figure out how to hear him because he is speaking to you now.

I understand what you are feeling. I understand the pain that u endured and the need of someone to help you out mostly god. Just understand this that for every of your misery some other are feeling the same thing and god in his mission want you to feel these pain so that someday when u experience happiness, you can see and understand what your life has mean up to now. Good luck to everything that u do and hopefully u persevere through this time of sadness that you are going through and find god and the life that u truly want.

you'd been told that God listens but he doesnt answer.. so why be upset that there was silence?

you can only go so far as what you've heard about God.

God is abundantly gracious when anyone calls out to be saved. and scripture says "he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is the rewarder of those who dilegently seek him." - hebrews 11:6
"those that call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus), shall be saved." . "He abounds in riches to all that call upon him" - romans 10:12-13
.

There is silence because God knows you only as God created you; God knows you remain with "Him", in perfect peace, as you sleep, dreaming you are someone else; silence because you told yourself you cannot hear "Him", but this is untrue.

Is suffering all you see? Why? Have you been taught that only suffering exists? In truth, only God exists; there are no selfish requests...only the reaching of the disillusioned for an objectified "god" to come save them from their dim sight.

Rejoice in the Silence (uppercase 'S' is intentional). This Silence demonstrates God's perfect presence in and through and as, everything that you are in truth. It means you are blessed by your existence, not damned because of it.

I know its sounds pretty cliche but God loves you, and he does help us and all of us have our share of problems and grief but sometimes we have to remember, there are millions of people out there and god is only one, whatever name we may call him, there's only one, and who knows, he might be already answering your prayers, SILENTLY as well but you just have might not noticed it yet, dont loose faith, we have to the power to make a change, sometimes a simple gesture is all it takes, a simple thank you or a simple hello to that old friend you saw earlier, as simple as these gestures may seem, they can still brighten someone else's day and even in the smallest way make the world a better place, everyday we look for a miracle, but being alive itself is a miracle, so dont loose hope, he's always there for you and he'll always be.

Well. Leo B., I've spent most of my life in your shoes. Having faith is a struggle when God doesn't give you peace of mind, but I put my hope in one day receiving it. I hope that when I die and meet God, he'll take away all the pain and suffering life has given me. You have to fight and perservere to believe in spite of life's circumstances. The only other option is to give up and become an atheist, which is the coward's way out.
