My boyfriends son is 13 years old. He is complaining of headches, eye pain, blurred vision. He says he gets pain in front and over his eyes. He had an eye exam in Aug. or Sept.
It came back ok, and he was given glasses for reading. What type of doctor should we take him too? I was thinking a neurologist. What type of problem can he have? I know you always think the worse like brain tumor, or cancer so I don't want to jump the gun either. He has suffered from headaches for a very long time, and now is having vision problems too!
His headaches are not everyday, but, they are painful.
Thanks for any advise.

Do not worry about jumping the gun. If you don't look after him no one will and he is too young to handle the problem on his own.
You don't say much else about him. Does he have signs and symptoms of diabetes? ie: over weight substantially, or under weight substantially. Do headaches occur more often after meals or sweet foods? Is he often thirsty or does he have to urinate often. These are all things a family doc can figure out.
Of course headaches indicate many problems. You need to start with the family doctor; and in order to rule out the some of the more serious problems the boy needs a CT scan of the head.
Simple blood work can tell a lot as well.
In the meantime when his headaches occur keep him in a warm dark room, and out of the wind. Do not allow chocolate or caffeine of any type. Search migraines and their symptoms on the web. Migraines often cause eye pain and nausea; and they are actually worsened by plain aspirin. They are often triggered by the same things repetitively.
Keep a diary of who you saw, what tests were done, what treatments and medications were given and what the effects were. Keep a diary of when the headaches occur and what happened surrounding the headaches........ie: where was he, what was he doing, what did he eat, drink, was there stress involved, etc. etc. These things will help you to help the doctors figure it out. They will also help you keep track of what's going on.

Young people can get migraine headaches and stress/tension headaches.
You may want to take him for another eye exam, I have worn eyeglasses since I was two years old, have had several eye surgeries; and have to be very careful that my lenses are ground exactly correctly for my eyes.
I have suffered from migraines for decades, and have had several occasions where they have worsened with new glasses; or changes in prescription.
You may want to take him to a different eye specialist, in order to get a second opinion. Boys/men also have a tendency to suffer from cluster headaches; which have a tendency to affect their vision more severely than even migraines do.
If an eye specialist cannot pinpoint the problem, I would take your boyfriends son to a neurologist, in order to check for more serious medical problems that may be contributing to these physical reactions.
If neither of these approaches helps, or finds any problems; you could also take the young man to an allergist, headaches can be caused by allergic reactions to many things.
There are prescribed and over the counters meds for both of these types of headaches, and many allergies.
Thank you for being concerned about your boyfriends sons well-being. Best of luck to all of you, and have a good day.

It sounds like he suffers from a specific form of migraine, called "cluster headaches." They are more common in men. You may want to take him to a neurologist just to rule out anything more serious, but this type of head ache can be managed by your family doctor. The medication Imitrex is found to be very therapeutic in preventing them from occurring.

I don't think it is that serious, but I agree, take him to a neurologist, can be just a migraine, but the neurologist will know better, trust him or her a lot
