Trans fats are bad, and they clog arteries, I think we can all agree on that, right?

So what is an acceptable amount to consume each day? Should I ban them completely from my diet?

You should limit them more then the "good fats". A product can claim 0 grams trans-fats as long as there is less then 5grams in the product. Anything that has hydrogenated oils in it has trans-fats. You should try to keep the hydrogenated oils out of the top 5 ingredients on packaged foods. Even butter can become a tran-fat if it is melted and then hardened again. Most fast food places use trans-fats in their fryers.

I try to not eat anything with trans fat, but I'm a slight health freak.

It really depends on how well you want to look after your body. People often forget that what you put in it usually stays in there. It doesn't just disappear. Seeing as trans fats are horribly, horribly bad for you, I would risk even the slightest amount.

Also, think about your family history. Are you at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure or high cholesterol? If so, ban them all together.

But if you're in good health and you want a doughnut every now and then, it won't kill you. I wouldn't have more than one trans fat treat every one or two weeks though. There are so many other sweets out there (even ice cream) that are trans fat-free.

i wouldn't "ban" them from your diet, just limit them. choose foods with little or no trans fat you don't need to count the grams to control your intake of trans fat

just be aware of how much your eating them

Ya,,, trans fats r bad n u hav rightly said they clog arteries....

Omega-3 fatty acids (fats) is good for cerebrovascular health.... Means its good 4 Brain, heart n blood vessels in our body... So try 2 include Omega-3 in ur diet...

Role of Omega Fatty Acids in Good Nutrition
Omega-3s are termed essential fatty acids (EFAs) because they are critical for good health. Since the body cannot make them on its own, omega-3s must be obtained from food.

Key Functions
Reduce hypertension. Studies of large groups of people have found that the consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may aid in lowering overall blood pressure level.
Improve heart health. Omega-3 fatty acids may play a part in keeping cholesterol levels low, stabilizing irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia), and reducing blood pressure.
Protecting the heart. Researchers now believe that alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), one of the omega-3s, may be particularly beneficial in protecting against heart and blood vessel disease, and for lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
Food Sources
Key omega-3 fatty acids include eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosahexanoic acid (DHA), and alpha-lineolenic acid (ALA). EPAs and DHAs are found in oily cold-water fish such as tuna, salmon, and mackerel, as well as fresh seaweed. ALAs are found primarily in dark green leafy vegetables, flaxseed oils, and certain vegetable oils.

Usage
There is no established recommended daily intake for omega-3s, but a healthy diet containing significant amounts of foods rich in this essential fatty acid is recommended.

Omega-3 fatty acids are very safe to consume. However, most experts recommend limiting fish consumption to two to three servings weekly because so many fish may be tainted with mercury and other contaminants. Fish oil capsules do not usually present this same risk.

Safety Evidence
There are no known side effects associated with increasing your intake of omega-3 fatty acids through foods, although fish oil capsules do pose the risk of a "burp" factor – a harmless, sometimes unpleasant, fishy aftertaste that occurs with some brands of fish oil capsules.
