The Sprinter was first marketed under the Dodge name after the demise of the Ram Van after the '03 model year. Before that and continuing today, DCX also carries the Sprinter under the Freightliner name. I noticed that a new 3.5L turbo diesel with 254hp and 250ft/lbs of torque is now available. That original anemic 5 cylinder engine was bad. They give new meaning to roomy and obviously most people do not have to stoop to walk around in one. The style is certainly as distinctive (maybe not beautiful) as it is practical. When sitting in the drivers seat, the ambiance is very truck like - no denying its strong commercial pedigree. I agree with timetraveler that the high center of gravity would seem to predispose the Sprinter to easy rollovers. However, I have not actually heard this is a problem.

They are roomy and pretty good on fuel... but they are loud and the seats are rather uncomfortable (hard plastic except for the cushion)... Standard front air conditioning is not enough to cool the entire van on a hot day... you'll need the rear climate control or roof mounted upgrade ! It's utilitarian, so be prepared... it's not for the luxury oriented individual !

Fully loaded they can do 21 MPG.
That's enough for me.
As far as servicing them I don't know much.
But Merecedes has great diesel engine.
If you find a decent price and think your gonna put it to use it wouldn't be a bad idea.
