Same with black dogs. Its is a fact they are the least likely adopted. Any other color is adopted first. All five of my dogs are black fluff balls and three of my five fosters are black.
Oh and of course I have a black cat.

Superstitious people I would suppose. This is a shame because there is no difference in cats just because of the color of their fur. I had a black cat that I named Panther. He was a great cat. Sleek and graceful. He was killed by a neighborhood cat killer. I have never let another cat out side after that. I had his mother Gracie for almost 17 years. I wonder if you could put a bright color of collar on the black animals to see if they are noticed, Can you add that they are friendly?I'll have to remember to say a prayer for the black ones.

Oh my -- I LOVE black cats. I had two up until last March 16 when my 16 year old black cat Macs died. I am still not over his loss. He was the best cat I ever had -- he had a personality, most cats don't. If I was upset it was like he sat and talked to me. When I cried he would lick the tears off my face and sit with me til I felt better. He slept with my every night. every morning he'd follow me around the house and he would always head butt me when he wanted my attention or just to show his love.
I still have one, she's 5 and her name is Poppie... she's beautiful. I'm making some videos of her for YouTube. I also have a black, grey and white cat. She lookes like the cat on the Whiskas cat food bag.
I haven't met anyone yet that doesn't like my cats when they see them. They are a bit timid of the black cat/bad luck thingy but other than that they have liked them both. I even have friends that are alergic to them but they still pet them when they come over.
I wish I lived wherever you do I'd take them all off your hands... :). In fact the one I still have my gf found at her work, it just walked in the front door and her knowing I Iove black cats she brought it home.

Some people find black cats "common." To the average person, they may look alike. (not true if you've ever owned a few) Most people say that black cats are "unlucky" and may bring misfortue to that family. Others believe they are somehow tied to the devil. Also black cats are known to be witches helpers...a creature to practice spells on.
I used to work for Animal Control and they would not adopt out black cats on Halloween because there was the chance of them being a "costume assessory" or possibly abused by crazed people believing that they are demon cats...crazy huh..
I personally like black cats and how their fur reflects light.

Many people think they're "bad luck", or "common". Some people find them intimidating, since the dark fur sometimes makes their faces look unfriendly. (I don't personally think so, I think they are beautiful, but apparently many people view this differently...)
A tip: A friend of mine who works in rescue noticed had a black cat adopted in record time. the cat's name was "Moon". She called the next black cat "Moon" as well, and found a home quickly. She told that story to some other friends of ours who are in rescue, and - it seems to work!
Several people have had much better than normal success in finding homes for black cats called "Moon". Of yours,e it might be coincidence, but it has worked for almost two dozen cats by now. So we decided that "Moon" must be a lucky name for black kitties.
Try it - hope it works for you, too! :)

I agree with the Above Answers. Some People are Very Supersticious, While others just arent awed by a Black Animals Color, like they would be a Cute little Brown and White Puppy/Kitten.
I own 2 Black Dogs myself and plan to get a Black Great Dane in the near future, I guess we are one of the Few out there who really like them!..hehe

I love black cats they're my favorite kind. But a lot of people are superstitious because of old pagan beliefs. But those people shouldn't have cats anyway if they believe in superstitious things like witches and demons so he happy that they're black. It just means that good owners will take them because bad ones will be swayed away

There are sooo many people who are superstitious about this still. Bad luck - witches kitties - etc...
We have two and it amazes me how many people are freaked out by them.
One of them gets brief supervised trips outside and we have several neighbors who will walk on the other side of the street if we are out front with the cat. Another neighbor will not enter our home.
It seems like a more popular superstition among black families for some reason.
I have no idea why this one stuck - I love my cats!

People don't like black cats because of movies. They think they are bad luck. I've had many black cats as pets they are just the same as any other. There is no bad luck involved.

People are superstitious of black cats and believe they have connections to evil spirits. It's ridiculous of course. In Los Angeles CA they will not let you adopt a black cat until they do a screening on your background because of so many people using them for satanic rituals.
it's a crazy world.

Because of some ridiculous superstition about black cats. It can lead people to behave mindlessly, like all other silly superstitions. In the part of the world where I was born and grew up, it was in fact considered v ery "lucky" to have a black cat walk across your path lol. People would go out of their way to get one to walk in front of them. I had the most wonderful little solid black cat called Wizard of Oz (Ozzie for short). loved him dearly, and, in fact the years that I and The Oz were together happened to be some of the happiest, most successful of my life.
You'd think that in this day and age people would have the intelligence to toss out all ridiculous superstitious nonsense. I've walked under stepladders, spilt salt, and broken many mirrors in my life, and none of it has hurt me one bit LOL.
