Since you will be in Phuket, suggest you spend a couple of days there and perhaps buying some excursion tours to PP isaland, and Krabi. 12 days are not long, just the beaches and seafoods would be good and relaxing holidays. Enjoy.

Bangkok - Golden Palace - best palace I've seen but maybe book a tour guide (haggle), otherwise you'll be like me and buy a guidebook that will stay unread on a dusty shelf. Watch out for the Tuk Tuk drivers who will try and take you to a load of expensive shops where they get commission. MBK shopping centre is a great place to shop in Bangkok - cheap too. Yonpinni is a good night market. Don't forget to haggle!
Go west to Kanchanaburi for Bridge over the River Kwai, Elephant Trecking and rafting, up North to Chang Mai, very green and loads of animals.
Phuket...Coral Island is nice but no good for snorkelling or scuba. If you like diving and stuff, try Phi Phi Island - where the movie 'The Beach' was filmed. Don't forget to try the mangosteens...very delicious! When you get to the airport, don't take a rip off private cab - take a METER taxi outside the airport. Most of all, have lots of fun and enjoy the culture.
BTW Don't diss the King as they really really respect him.
Enjoy!

The temple of the tigers
Look it up on the net and get hold of documentries like on animal planet which prove the tigers aint drugged or mistreated but genually relaxed around people and cool being hugged and playing paw paw games
Ier you get to hand out with untheatered friendly tigers who are pets of an aboot at a buddist temple/tiger sanctuary
The cubs though are like normal kittens and will grab you but not hurt you so make sure you have tentanous and rabises shots just in case.
ie see www.tigertemple.co.uk and look for the offical one
And get to know the different tigers by name before you go there.
Its at Kanchanbanui near the bridge over the river kwai.
take a video camera as nobody will beleive the photos

Such a wide question, ^_^
It depends on your style of travel, If you like sea. Island. Basically you should travel some where southern part of Thailand. Phuket Kra-bi, Su-rat-tha-ni. But if you like the cold weather and mountain views. Go to travel somewhere northern part thaland.
And also it up to your schedule time in Thailand. As if around For April-May, It better to go to the sea. Coz this period if hot season in Thaialnd. But if you come to Thailand on Nov-Jan. That period is cold here. Better to go trekking in Northern Part. Something like that

For the beach, go to Krabi, Phanga, Samui, in the south then fly to Bangkok the capital. Go to the north, Chiengmai/Mae Hongsohrn/Chiengrai. Northeast provinces for your next trip.
12 nights not enough to see Thailand but might be OK for the few provinces in the south.
