My husband works as a welder and he never went to school, he started at a company as just a general laborer in a factory and started practicing with the welders before and after work and when one of them left my husband took his place so basically he got on the job training and recently when we moved he had no problem getting a job bc he had almost 5 years experience, so basically I think if you can just get your foot in the door somwhere and work your way up thats the way to go, good luck.

I was a welder for three years. The way I received my training was through Vocational Training Schools while in High School. It was a free, two years course that is taken in the last two years of school for those who wish to participate. You can also look up Trade Schools for welding. There are a lot out there and they are usually pretty reasonable.
Good Luck!

Tough one. Welding is not a trade you just walk into. It is true, anyone can weld. If you could control a crayon in kinder garden, you can be a welding master. However, when you're doing things like buildings, ships, trucks and trailers, or even underwater welding, perfect doesn't begin to say how important the weld is. Getting a job in a fabrication shop would be your best bet to start out but getting any job welding without the training, licence and experience to back it up will be tough. I welded underwater piping for a few years. It's labourous work that pays amazingly but the pressure's on. One little screw up and the weld is garbage and lives could be lost. It's best to know what you're doing and get the training. Good luck.

See if you can get hired on at a small shop to get experience at it while getting paid. You got to know the ins and outs of welding to pass the certification test
