I was in a supermarket the other day and I saw cocoa, drinking chocolate among other things. I see in recipes sometimes for cocoa powder, sometime drinking chocolate and I began to wonder, what is the difference?

cocoa powder is unsweetened pure cocoa. Drinking chocolate is sweetened and often has artificial ingredients. I use plain cocoa powder that I sweeten myself with natural raw sugar or agave nector

Cooking cocoa is unsweetened, and the drinking chocolate is sweetened. Cocoa is actually very bitter. If you get the chance dip your finger in some and try it. The drinking stuff has sugar added, and tastes pretty good 'raw'.
