Yu cannot lose the CDdriver in the computer !
You mean you misplaced the cd containing the driver file ?
Your CDRom drive could have a mechanical failure.
Try a cd cleanup disk(.If the light is on always )
Do you get sound , that it is running ?
Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager.
Check Properties for CDrom and select update driver.
Or note the make and download the driver from web.

open the control panel double click system click hardware tab click the device manager button where it says dvd/cd-rom drives click the plus sign first then right click the drive click properties click the driver tab then click update driver.
If that doesn't work right click on the device again this time click delete or uninstall then reboot, windows will then detect it as a new device and reinstall the drivers

Try a cd lens cleaner,its got little brushes and a small bottle of alcohol,if that doesn't work drink the bottle cos you will probably have to get new one.
