they are human beings with amazing cultures and backgrounds. (indians especially) their parents have brought them up to be respectful and to work hard. we don't have that in our country. today our society is living in fear of teenage yobs who's parents are so uneducated and unwise.

i wish i had been brought up with a strong family orientated background. i wish i wasn't white. i am ashamed of it sometimes.

racists disgust me.

The fact that they are racist means that nothing can be done to make them see that immigrants aren't all bad.

Racists are, by definition, ignorant or intolerant and so will most likely be stubborn and pig headed too.

But remember that not all people against the amount of immigrants coming in are racist, but some are genuinely worried about too many people being too much for the system. Like the NHS and the Benefits Agencies (I am NOT implying that all immigrants are on benefits), too many people in the UK will stretch these resources, eventually beyond their means.

It would probably never happen if everyone in the UK that could work did work, but a lot of people are too lazy and then moan when foreigners start getting jobs.

Please don't be ashamed of your heritage and being who you are because of a very vocal minority.

I do agree with you...but you shouldn't really say such a comment as "i wish i wasn't white...I'm ashamed of it". This appears slightly hypocrytical to me.

....back to the question...

It is largely the uneducated, scurge of society that are racist, using the ever common excuse that polish and indians are stealing "their" jobs.

Firstly...they don't have the authority to say "their" jobs because most of them would rather scrounge on the dole than do the low paid jobs that even highly educated foreigners are prepared to take on.

Too many people in this country think everything should be handed to them on a plate...that they shouldn't "have to work"! They think they can just sit in the queue for a council house...they don't even have the embarrassment of having to collect a dole cheque anymore (because it's paid straight to their account) etc.

I would much rather be living next door to hard working polish or indian people than Wayne or Tracey who laze around watching Jeremy Kyle thinking the country owes them something. If they don't like the immigrants then maybe they should go clean toilets or work in the pizza joint instead. Even scroungers think they are too above themselves to clean toilets.

I have been to University, work hard, pay my taxes and if anything I feel I am in the group that is most penalised in this country. I want to work hard and save for my own property...I would never even consider applying for a council house.

It sickens me that too many people think housing is a given right...i'm all for hard working immigrants in this country. I hope it will give all the lazy sods the shock they deserve.

I agree.

not ALL are bad but some are like everybody else. The point is, is that we let the bad ones in and give them benefits.
Most racism is ignorance like this David guy above who mentioned "blowing up"., as it was Pakistanis and Somalians who done this in London NOT Indians!

I believe our generation of white English people could learn a thing or two from the 2nd generation of Indians. Their hard work and respectfulness even though being brought up here.

But NOT all immigrants are like that and they should not all be branded the same. Muslims have the highest level of unemployment of ANY faith group and claim the highest level of ill health . i.e. they are the largest community draining benefits in the UK.

I think that part of the problem with immigrants is that whilst we want then to adapt to British culture, it is inevitable that part of their original culture will rub off on us. This is not always desirable.
In the 1950's for example when I was small, we were all taught not to throw litter in the streets.
Many africans have no respect for this discipline (I have lived in Africa)
Now we find our streets are filthy with litter and British children (many of whom do not know the meaning of discipline, respect or good manners) are copying the immigrants and throwing litter.
This is just one example and I know it is a negative one.
However it does illustrate the danger of trying to assimilate foreigners, often against the wishes of the people of the host country.
It's what we have got for making material values and the economy more important than anything else - including our country.

Legislation, something like what we have now. That is the only way, to suppress peoples thoughts and liberties so they cannot give an opinion.

PS. Doctress says so called racists are a small minority in the UK that is because the opinions of the people are suppressed by government so we will never really know will we?

Their not all bad, but when we go to other countries we try to integrate and respect their culture except in Spain where we made a mini England. Having said that England is in danger of losing it's heritage and everything i say or do is analysed for any racist undertones. Don't mind some, but don't want to be overrun. They should be properly vetted, if they don't work they should go back and they should assist the authorites more on problems in their communities not just get on a soap box and cry racism at evrything.

You have to blame the Blair government. They have allowed it to escalate to a level that makes it no longer manageable. I have spoken to people who accept that we must take in people who are in danger in their own country. What a lot of people will not accept are 1000's here for the ride and our money. There are good and bad in every race and country. We have allowed a lot of the bad ones in and it shows in some towns and cities. We have to stop now and work with the immigrants who should be here and remove the ones who should not. Then we may find a balance to keep us all happy.

Immigrants, middle east, must not try to impose their culture and religion on others.
Terrorism is a scourge that affects us all.
Terrorist are not invisible it take family and community to allow them to prevail.
The single ,insane individual, with a stick of dynamite who blows himself up on a bus or kills babies in their cribs cannot be stopped.
Organized terrorism is visible to many and as long as they allow it to happen the have to bear some of the blame, and the consequences.
They are charged with the responsibility to help reduce the effectiveness of terrorists or accept their lot.
Racism and bigotry are the result of small minded people who are unable to reason to any extent and it will always be with us.
The is one thing you must accept, racial profiling in security sensitive situations.
If you are innocent you will probably be OK.

I commend your enthusiasm but not all white people think that way and most other races in this country are prejudice against us white brits a lot not all refuse to intergrate thay refuse to get jobs thet refuse to learn the language these are the ones which annoy a lot of people and once again i stress on both sides it is not all whites and not all other races or cultures, your view is very narrow minded and blinkered, open your eyes to the bigger picture people like yourself rally politically correct hatred against people.

I find it constantly disturbing that race is even an issue any more.

I don't care where people are from, I just care that they're good people. It's unfortunate that most tabloid papers take pretty much any problem that can ultimately be traced back to corruption or incompetence in our government, and blame it on people who want to come to the UK.
