i have not heard of a dog that died from this . i have however read in what i would take to be serious reputable magazines at the vets office that a dog can die from such a thing.
i know my dog has had tiny bits of chocolate and is fine but i would worry if he were to eat a chocolate bar or a few chocolate cookies. i don't intentionally give him chocolate as i go believe potential death matter is real. i am sure if you were to call the vets office they could tell you right off the facts about this .

It is the baking chocolate that is toxic to dogs. All chocolate has this in it. Dark chocolate has more than Semi- sweet and that has more than milk chocolate. White chocolate you don't need to worry about because there is no actual chocolate but still not a good idea for the dog. People food in general can be pretty hard on their systems unless it is straight meat products like chicken. But then again they start begging for your dinner once you have shown them how good it is.

No, I have not met or heard of anyone who lost a dog from eating chocolate, but then too, I never met anyone who lost a dog to rabies either. Most people know chocolate is bad for dog and resit the urge to feed it to them. The below link will answer your question.

Chocolate is dangerous for dogs. My black Lab stole a chocolate bar from my bag before and went into a fit of shakes a few mins later, he lost complete control of his bladder and wet himself on the livingroom floor. At the time we didn't know thats what made him ill until we found the chocolate bar wrapper.

Yes. Chocolate is extremely toxic for dogs. As little as one ounce can send a dog into toxic shock.

There are also some other things that should not be given to dogs. Grapes and Raisins are known to cause acute liver failure.

Yes, I have. Granted it depends on the size of the dog and how much they have eaten. But they are not able to digest chocolate, and it is poisonous to them if alot is eaten.
