I've had this exact problem very recently: the advice i received was to read before i go to sleep (not something exciting, try something boring so it makes u fall asleep!) some gentle exercise in the evening but not right before bed, a hot shower/bath (research suggests you fall asleep quicker if ur hands and feet are warm) nothing to drink after 8pm, and no caffeine after 4pm - dont eat late coz your body will wanna stay awake and work to digest it.
hope this helps, try ur hardest not to focus on it and worry about falling asleep, when u go to bed try to start a dream off - can be something really random, and you'll fall right into it!

If you are experiencing this kind of problem, there are some suggestions I can give you:
first, lessen caffeine content that you are drinking.
second is to take a shower when you about to go to bed, mostly when you take a bath or shower, all anxieties and uncomportable feelings would be gone away, you may sing ♪♫ while taking a shower. You may also use foot bath to calm you down. And when you are in bed, try to think that you are just going to bed only to sleep and nothing else. Don't ever harm yourself for not sleeping. Try to be more relaxing sometime. Let go of bad disturbances like Radio, T.V etc. and all worries in bed time. And remember, thoughts are not actions. You deserved to have time for your own self to feel more comfortable. And lastly,"praying" is the most powerful communication on Earth with the Divine Creator. Knowing this, your consciously and creatively act for the highest good. Your unique voice and consiciousness blesses all. Goodluck..

When i can't sleep I lie with my legs against a wall (so my body is in an L shape - or close to it) and close my eyes and count slowly backwards from 100.
Sounds silly hey!
But then I get back into bed and my legs feel all nice and tingly and I just drop right off. I don't know why!
Sounds like you have anxiety though - wouldn't hurt to visit the doctor and talk to him about it, if you need them there are anti anxiety tablets that will help your mind relax - not sleeping pills though so you won't be woozy.

I can sympathize as I am going through the same thing but my kid is at least a teenager. I am going to ask my doctor for some Ambien or something. Maybe you should ask your doctor for some too but make sure that what ever he prescribes will not make you feel drugged the next day. If you decide to do this then do not use it all the time though as you do not want to become addicted. Good luck!
PS: I have been awake two days now and I am dragging my tail feathers.

OMG, I know what you mean. It sucks. Sometimes that would happen if not I will sleep but I will wake up every 1 or 2 hours so I when I wake up I'm very tired during the day. I would tell you to take sleeping pills but you have two very young children whom you need to take care of.

30 minutes before I go to bed I take a gravol . it will relax you in about 20-30 minutes.
you will sleep uninterrupted and solid.
Sometimes there is just too much going on in the household to relax.
If you are not relaxed the kids will sense it and become more unruly. Your temper will be short.
Take a nice hot bath also before bed, dim the lights. light a candle and maybe once in a while a glass of wine.
sometimes you just have to be good to yourself so that you can unwind.
Make the effort, you will feel a heck of alot better.

Consider getting a music cd from Janeala Hoffman of Rythmic Music....beautiful to listen to and it brings your heart rate down from 80 beats per minute to 50. I have high blood pressure and often have a hard time relaxing enough to sleep. Bought the musical acupuncture cd and fall asleep quickly, and sleep very soundly. Works for me, and at $14 a cd, well worth the investment. Hope that helps!
P.S. These cd's are used to help treat dementia patients as it is soothing for them to listen to.

Try Melatonin. It is used for sleep and for people with jet lag. it comes in 1,3 and 5mg tablets. It is inexpensive. you can buy it over the counter (usually kept with the vitamins and other supplements.) I had cronic insomnea for years and this is great. Start off with a low dose like the 1 mg and go from there. The best part is it does not leave you feeling fuzzy in the morning.
Good luck

I have had this for the past 2 nights and I think my problem is that I am being overstimulated by being on the computer for too long and too late. Maybe you are too? We need to shut this contraption off and go play with our kids more! (I have 5 of them!!)
I hear ya sister!
