Common sense says no.
I think the reason she mentioned this was because the idea of doing such a thing is so ridiculous and dangerous that it was meant to be funny. Sarcastic in a way.
Think about it, if you haven't eaten in so long and you're about to faint - then you body is trying to tell you something. The body needs food to convert to energy so that you can do your day-to-day things - although i'm sure you already know this.
Cheese is a part of the diary group - its an important part of the food pyramid but it is in no way a substitute for anything - or, EVERYTHING.
If you want to lose weight, the best way is through a sensible diet and controlled exercise. Dangerous weight loss methods flat out don't work and the long-term effects of this method can result in serious organ/tissue damage and other serious health issues.

She was starving herself, hon. The cube of cheese is instant protein and fat that helps elevate your blood sugar so you won't pass out. Starving yourself to get thin is NEVER a good idea. And really, is that any way to live?? If you're truly interested in eating healthily and losing weight, I suggest something like the South Beach diet, which incorporates good fats, high fiber carbs and lean proteins. You never get hungry, and you will tone up. Starving your body of necessary fuel can lead to tissue damage, irreversible heart damage, loss of calcium (bones and teeth, babe) and muscle tone. Yuck- you might be thin, but you'll be a brittle mess on the verge of a stroke. SO not hot.

The cheese diet that Emily was on is actually anorexia. However, adding a serving of calcium rich foods for breakfast to a balanced diet can help you to lose weight.
