Contrary to what some believe, flood damage cars are very rarely a good deal, even the ones with a small amount of damage.

There are simply too many potential problems that can cost thousands of dollars to repair. These problems may not show up until wires, connectors and electronic components start to corrode, even a year or two later the risk is still there.

Even worse, and one that most people don't think about is the health hazards associated with buying a car that's been involved with water damage.

Consider what flood waters contain, sewage, dead animal remains, harmful contaminants and with Katrina, Rita and other major floods, even human remains.

Flood waters are susceptible to cause Septic Shock, which caused the death of a Mississippi fire fighter after he scratched his finger extracting a Katrina flood victim.

What seems like a great deal can often turn out to be a nightmare, I'd stay away from any vehicle that's even had minor flood or water damage.

I advise caution. You might wish to go to car facts and run the history on the VIN. Check under the carpet for rust. Run if you are getting a salvage title.
The biggest concern is the electrical system. The damage will not be visible to the eye but you could end up with a car that can not be repaired.
