In the womb though it is best to wait until after the baby is born. There is some risk of miscarriage if you do it while pregnant. Here's the two ways

Chorionic Villi Sampling can be performed between the 9th and 12th week of pregnancy. It is a procedure in which the doctor obtains a small amount of tissue from the placenta.

An amniocentesis is usually performed at or around the 16th week of pregnancy and must be completed by an obstetrician. During this procedure the doctor inserts a needle through the Mother’s abdomen and extracts a sample of amniotic fluid from around the baby.

Technically it can be done immediately after the birth. They can test the placenta.

However - legally its a different can of worms.

In Australia you have to have permission from the Family Court for it to be recognised with-in the legal system.

It is illegal to secretly test a baby/child under 18 without both parents permission.

Otherwise if both parents agree, a test can be done by a GP or as I mentioned & if arranged with the hospital at birth.

The father has to give a swab sample from the inside of his mouth. There are legal documents that have to be signed as well. It is quite an expensive procedure but if done properly by a Family Court approved pathology centre it has a 99.95% accuracy.

If you need more info go to the Family Court website...

14 weeks into the pregnancy with an amniocentesis. This test is where they stick a long needle into your womb and take out a few cells to do genetic testing. It doesn't hurt the baby at all and the DNA results will give you the answers you need.

Good Luck1
