The heat from repeatedly going over sections of your hair can damage it and possibly cause split ends due to the loss of moisture from a straightening iron. If you use shampoos that are formualted to lock moisture in your hair (they close the hair cuticle when rinsing conditioner out) that helps and also using products made for straightening or post conditioning like Chi or Silk Therapy will help it as well. I straighten my hair almost everyday and I haven't had a problem with dryness, frizz or split ends. I use pureology shampoo & conditioner and a styling creme for flyaways while my hair is wet and then dry and straighten. On occasion in the humid/hot TX weather I will use CHI Silk Therapy liquid and my hair is too soft. Try using a straightening product and/or new shampoo/conditioner and you will notice the difference. I definitely recommend pureology @ pureology.com.

the heat in the straighteners takes the moisture out of the hair leaving it dry, this over a period of time depending on the conditioner of the hair will damage it

I have always had straight hair
once I talked to a woman who had her hair straighten and she said it was the worst thing she could do to her hair.
