Also, use the two step method- taking two steps towards the audience denotes confidence. Use a conversational tone, just like in real life instead of a formal tone.

I'm so sorry, my mind is blank now. I can't think of what you can say, but I can give you some handy tips on how to manage something like this.
1) Rehearse at home first.
2) Stay calm.
3) Always try to look a bit straight, staring down at the crowd can give you the creeps.
