One of the cutest we ever did was a tribute to the Wright Brothers, We used a vest, a black derby, put my daughter's hair up under the hat, and made her a paper mustache. This would work well for your little boy and he could carry a cheap wooden airplane. Sky's the limit with the little girl: Something from Little House on the Prairie, A Raggedy Ann, Strawberry Shortcake, and the statue of liberty is fun for either....use an old sheet and make the flame from a paper plate or an ice cream cone, etc. A turtle's easy to duplicate with green or brown tights and a cardboard shell. Kings and queens are easy, too. Use a bath towel for a cape, decorated with pom pom balls and "jewels" from the craft store. Great cardboard crowns are found in party stores; so are swords, magic wands, fairy dust[bags of glitter] and much more. Spongebob would really be fun and wouldn't take much more than a box and a little yellow paint. Have fun and take photos. I see a Kodac moment coming on!!

You can't go wrong with Hot Wheels. They are $1 each and you can get quite a few for under $10. Include Hot Wheel pencils and eraser in a Hot Wheel gift bag. You can get all at Wal-Mart and not break the bank.

last year i dressed my daughter as queen of hearts (alice in wonderland book) as it wasnt so expensive to do and i made 2 huge queen of hearts playing cards and put them over her shoulders so they hung over her belly and back and put glitter all over an old pair of shoes and for my son i dressed him as the wardrobe from narnia (lion witch wardrobe book), his head was stuck out of the top and his arm at the side, i made door and when you opened them id printed a winter scene at the back of the wardrobe and also printed characters from the book on the outside of the wardrobe, both won their years and ended up in the local paper. Both didnt cost much and not many materials were needed
