My son was in the same situation as you as he was deployed twice to Iraq as well and was not able to file his taxes. He just filed his 2005 taxes in Jan 2006 and went to a tax preparer service-last year's return has to be mailed in. He was still able to get a small refund. He also filed his 2006 return while he was there as well, although he probably could of filed those online himself through a company like H & R Block like I did, because I think it would of been fairly easy to do since they prompt you every step of the way and ask if you were deployed in a combat zone, ect. and make all the necessary adjustments. And, if you made under $52,000 last year, you may file online for free through the IRS website:

I know a couple of years ago, my son used a tax preparer service on base and they helped him for free. Just check with other military friends you know and ask them what they did to file their returns from past years.

Also, here is a link from military.com which may help you and give you some more info on filing your taxes:

Hang in there, I'm sure things will work out and you will get your refund if you have one coming. There are automatic filing extensions when you are deployed to a combat zone---the IRS does make exceptions for our military, which is really the right thing to do! Thank you for your service to our country!

If I were you, I'd contact your post or base legal Dept.
JAG will be able to tell you who on the base helps with taxes...I've never seen a base/post that didn't have some sort of tax help for the very reason you need help. I too was deployed all over the world, sometimes in combat and was tax free at times.

per the IRS: "In general, the deadlines for performing certain actions applicable to his taxes are extended for the period of his service in the combat zone, plus 180 days after his last day in the combat zone." also, for those in the military you can file online FREE ..... go to irs.gov and click on "2007 free file". you should be ok ..... file now to get your refund.

As a spouse of a husband that served our u . s ., i'm very dissatisfied that this became a question. to easily placed it, HELL NO. First, your husband is struggling with for each freedom you've as a citizen of america. He faces threat seen and unseen. you are able to theory or sympathy what he's dealing with. no longer in reality, is he lower than attack bodily, yet to boot mentally. My husband now has PTSD. I even imagine that you thinking dishonest is HEARTLESS! apparently, your marriage vows did not advise very a lot to you or did they? it truly is no longer about even if he unearths out. it truly is about doing what's suitable. you're the in reality man or woman who could stay with you. could God save our infantrymen!
