I don't normally star a question, however, I gave you a star because I liked your question. Why did you put it in the Jokes & riddles section? Anyway there are only three real colours i.e. magenta (red), yellow & blue from these three colours the thousands of different colours as we see it are created. Black is a mixture of all the colours; white is the absence of colour. In the old days the technology to produce colour pictures (colour separation technology) was not yet developed or too expensive to include into a TV. The picture was produced by mixing all the colours together resulting in a black & white picture. Hence they are known as black & white TVs

I think you are very poor not only in science but also COLOUR THEORY.
According to colour scientists:
Black is total absorption of all colours.
White is total equal reflection all colours.
Therefore your equation is wrong and whether question is asked knowingly or unknowingly is not clear
Black and white is colloquially used to mean SINGLE colour.

Black and white are not colors they are tints. To be a color it has to be able to be made from the three primary colors, red yellow and blue.
