"Hate" is a very heavy verb. Any language has intact its beauty. I disliked when I was forced to learn one particular language as compulsory at the beginning, but then I fell in love with it.
Well, I think that you mean not dead languages as Latin?

Have a nice day!

I didn't hate French in school just because I never had to study it. Thank God when I started the level we study languages in the school this language had been substituted for English. Nothing against French people, I just don't like the language...
Latin was not part of our basic studies here, but you always learn some words that came from when take a course in biological areas, as I did.

In my first year my school allowed everyone to try French, Spanish and German. I was doing well in Spanish and OK in German, but I just couldn't get the hang of French at all for some reason. However, I got forced to take French lessons for most of my secondary education, and hated the lessons. Once choosing my GCSEs came up I managed to make choices to be sure I'd never have to take another French lesson.

I've been to France with my parents (who speak some French), and gone to museums and been able to make sense of the written text, but I've never been able to understand spoken French.

Latin seemed pretty useless. I wanted to study law, but in those days you had to have Latin. I've been working as a legal adviser for 15 years. I can use Latin phrases such as 'pro bono', 'in camera', 'in dubio' in the right places, but I didn't have to translate Caesar's Gallic wars (which were already available in English) to learn a few phrases. Latin is a dead language - I just never saw the point.
On the other hand I speak three languages fluently and can get by in at least three more.

For those that consider German pronunciation difficult, I have to say I strongly disagree. In fact, English pronunciation is, in my opinion, far more challenging. With German, every word is pronounced exacly as it is spelt. There are no silent letters or different ways of pronouncing vowels. Consider how the >ough< changes in these English words:

dough
cough
through
though
rough
plough
hiccough

I hate to critisize but you're not too brilliant at English. I have always loved languages and of course they're harder than my own language, that's because I've been immersed in English since birth, mais, j'adore la langue francais.

I've also been told I have a natural ear for accents and sound quite authentic in which ever language I try my hand at.

I didn't like French or German at school, I just found them really hard to grasp. God only knows why I took them for Alevel, just thought they'd be useful......

and.......... 11 years after first starting them here I am in my final year at uni studying French and German! I must need my head testing!
To be honest they do get better and more interesting when you gain a higher level of understanding and I'm pleased I did them.....

English..As the Welsh language is my mother tongue I used to hate having to learn English,I'm glad I did now though as I can see the benefits of foreign languages and am in the process of learning Portuguese.I still don't like speaking in English and only do so if I have to ( when speaking to a non- Welsh person).
