to go off of leland, the bacteria in the gut is normal, what's not normal is the fact that it's bothering them (weakened immunity), inducing a sort of forgetfulness about where their hive is located...they think it's related to a specific pesticide (can't remember which exactly)...it's been banned in europe for years as they already saw it dwindle their own bee population...we need to pay more attention to what we spray on our foods...farmers what to grow more crops, but it's filtering into the plant tissues (FDA says 20% residue on food bought in stores is ok!! -- not to my peace of mind) and eventually getting into the flowers and nectar...and then the bees. they pollinate most of our food. einstein warned that if honeybees went extinct, humans would also within 4 years...scary

in the United States, there is a Varrora mite that is wiping out entire regions. Currently we are importing bees from S America that have some resistance to this mite.

This has been devastating to the bee industry.

Whole hives are disappearing! THEY DON'T KNOW! But 30% of your food comes from their pollination. Bacteria of a kind is being investigated, pesticides are suspected by some, a fungus in their gut may be developing because of some weakening being caused for an unknown reason.
