Why can't sixty percent of Americans name five of the Ten Commandments?

What does it say about US?...the supposedly Christian majority don't seem to have much interest in the details of their religious faith.

They can't name the Ten Commandments, yet they want them in our public courthouses.

The irony slices me like a katana.

It's the believe and follow what your preacher/pastor tells you mentality, it therefore requires no real though or need to hold it in memory.

I am the Lord thy God which brought you out of the House of Egypt, thou shalt have no other Gods before me

Thou shalt not kill (murder)
Thou shalt not Steal
Thou shalt not commit adultery
Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors (stuff)
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it Holy
Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days be long in the land that the lord thy god giveth thee
