~From my recent experience and the news, I find that the majority of Police Officers are LIARS! They will stick together, since they work together. I bet if one didn't go along, he would have to watch his own back.
The story above about the man at the bank is yet another horror story. I hope they don't keep the witnesses stories witheld, if there is a trial.
My experience recently... I was only told to get in my car and didn't do so fast enough, the police officer ran over, grabbed my wrist and continued to twist it. I asked if he was trying to break my arm and he said "yeah." Then I saw him trying to distract me with the wrist and arm thing while trying to sneak out a tazer.
I was handcuffed and the officer continued to use brute force on my arm and hand. I was screaming in pain while my 11 year old daughter cried in horror watching all of this. He wanted to be judge and jury and the police report did not report any of what truely happened.
There was a report of a mentally ill man being beaten by the Police, to death. They broke his ribs, which punctured his lungs, while on the ground, beaten to death. They got away with it even though a witness recorded it!
I think it's FINALLY time for the Police using undue force and beating and killing people, to be brought to justice. Just because someone is arrested, does not mean they are guilty, nor does it mean they should be beaten!
It seems like this is a daily thing anymore and I'm just discusted with it.~

*DUDE0795 says "If it calls for a club upside the melon then there it is. It is completely controlled by the person being arrested the level of force used."
Obviously he hasn't been abused by the Police YET. There is no excuse for being hit in the head with a club! They aren't above the law. Yes, SOME are crimminals, but we are all HUMAN for God's sake!
The report always say they used "minimal force" as taught. PULEEZ!

1. The female in question had commited a criminal offence and was resisting arrest. Now, I know it's great to shout down the police when you 'think' they've done something wrong, but how about if your car had been damaged by a white male yob, and the police had to use force on him to arrest him as he was kicking off in a disorderly, violent, aggressive, drunken stupor? I guess there would be far less people moaning - well lets have a sense of equality shall we? It is one rule for everyone - the police will use force where necessary.

2. It is a perfectly legitimate form of defence to throw a clenched fist towards someone and this is taught to trainee officers. The police officer who did so is not attempting to hide the fact in any way whatsoever. He is perfectly within his rights to use this level of force if he thinks it necessary. I imagine that those of you who are not police officers would be able to control all the people officers have to deal with nowadays with a few stern words and no force whatsoever? Dream on.

3. CCTV is misleading. That said, the officer has stated that yes, he did hit her. The force have stated that they are happy with the actions he took. It's funny how she only decides that she can make a complaint out of this after her solicitor gets hold of the cctv - she doesn't even remember what happened, apparently.

4. I sometimes wonder why any person would want to join the police. If you're not moaning at police driving standards when using blue lights, you're moaning about the level of force. We can't win. I just wish people would sometimes consider how exactly they would like the service run, because clearly nothing done by the police is ever good enough. Perhaps if we refuse to ever enter into any situation where conflict might arise, we leave the drunks to roam the streets until they're sober and sensible, we deal with those with guns/knives only once they have decided to put the gun/knife down, we attend every job at 30mph in rush hour traffic, we don't act on any terrorism intelligence in case we get it wrong (depsite the fact that 99% of the time it's right - you hear about the 1% that's not).... I could go on as the moans from the public are endless. Trust me - for the scrutiny and criticism we get, most officers would feel a whole lot safer if the examples above were true. In your day job, what's the worse that can happen if you mess up? Think about it - officers find themselves risking their life, freedom etc. every time they act.

Show some support, wait to hear the proper facts and stop jumping on the media band wagon.

While there are "bad cops", the vast majority of police are good people trying to keep order in a very violent society. Somehow, the person being arrested always feels the police used too much force. The police, on the other hand, know that a simple arrest can turn into a real threat to them. If the force is truly excessive, charges can be brought against the police officers involved; most cops really fear the Internal Affairs Bureau which investigate these charges. Of course, those who hate the police feel there is always a cover-up when there isn't enough evident to support their version of what happened.

I do agree, however, that many cops do assume that everybody is a real criminal. They have watched crimes being committed, and the perpetrator deny everything - even when caught on tape, so they assume everybody, everywhere, every time is lying to them.

You seem to be one of so many deluded people on these forums complaing about Police brutality and abuse of powers yet you clearly know none of the facts. All you've seen is fuzzy CCTV footage presented to you by a cynical media ready to manipulate and brainwash you against such high ideals such as civic responsibility, respect for the law, duty of care, etc, etc. How do you know the Officer was using excessive force? I mean if the first punch was so strong, so hard and so painful don't you think she would have let go after the first strike? And, what if I grabbed you by the bollocks and squeezed really hard, would you just stand there until I decide to let go? I don't think so. Don't be so quick to judge about things you know nothing off. The Officer in question is being investigated by the IPCC and they will determine on the balance of the evidence available if he is guilty of breach of procedure or committing an offence. So to answer your question, yes, the Police are accountable and no we don't live in a Police State like so many answerers to question believe. If we did live in a Police State you wouldn't have the opportunity to see such reports or ask such silly questions.

Our citizens are beating public servants (police firefighters, paramedics, doctors and nurses among others) do they not deserve protection?
Yes the videotape showing a woman being restrained by officers can be shocking if you don't see the whole tape and it isn't being shown. It is easy for media groups to attack the police when someone claims they are being assaulted on the basis of their race and not on the fact that they were violently resisting arrest and had it been a white woman she would have recieved the same treatment.
Had it been a police officer being beaten by a group of thugs would there be the same outcry? I seriously doubt it. Its time we stop attacking our police force and try to get behind it to make all our lives better. If they are wrong then there are ways and means of dealing with them.

Citizens are not being beaten by the police - law abiding citizens are being beaten by trash like that person (you cant even call her a woman or female cos she is in no way feminine) but when our police try to protect our property, our safety and their safety people want them hung drawn and quartered - its about time people who break the law got what they deserved

There are too many people out there gettin a slap on the wrist for wrecking things - whether it is someones property or life

This piece of scum reportedly caused £3000 of damage to so please explain why she only had to pay £250 compensation - is that REASONABLE?? - maybe to some people it would be but certainly not to the car owner - his premiums will go up, he will lose his no claims discount and have the hassle of taking time off to go get estimates for the work and to get it sorted - is that REASONABLE??

And where was the conviction for assualting a police officer - she tried to push him down the stairs, tried to kick his balls into the next life, punched him and spat at him - her punishment was laughable and in a few weeks/months she will be laughing her way to a huge settlement

This only demonstrates how many small minded and ignorant people there are out there. Before critisising the police once again have you considered looking at police self defence training?
Have you considered the Conflict Resolution Model?
Have you considered Section 117 of PACE or Section 3 of the Criminal Law Act?
Have you considered that this incident is a direct result of the offender's behaviour?
Have you considered the police officers duty of care to the public, his collegues and his own safety, as well as the safety of the offender?
Would you be prepared to accept a situation where the police refused to attend because the offender was too violent?
Would you be able to subdue and restrain a violent, non-compliant drunk using nothing more that kind words and good humour?
Have you ever tried to restrain a violent person who is kicking, scratching, spitting and biting and do so in a manner that 'looks nice' for the cameras?
Do you want to live in a society where the police are unable to do their job for fear of upsetting a few misguided individuals?
In the not too distant future all police officers will be issued with Taser so they will no longer have to roll around in the dirt with drunken scum. A quick jolt of 50 000 volts will soon make the most aggressive individual compliant. Then wait and see all the spineless liberals crawl out from their hiding places screaming 'police brutality'.

I have seen this same question a number of times today and am amazed that about 90% of the answers were in support of the police officer it is refreshing to see some common sense.Just a few of the usual idiots came up with their uninformed comments such as another police Murder. This female had no injuries whatsoever and only seems to have noticed what happened to her when £ signs appeared on the horizon.

I think if she complied and went peacefully then none of it would have happened. Once the violator is advised they are under arrest they do not have the right to resist, if they chose to then the officer has the right to do whatever is reasonably necessary to effect the arrest. If it calls for a punch on the arm to get the arm in cuffs, then so be it. If it calls for a club upside the melon then there it is. It is completely controlled by the person being arrested the level of force used.

Firstly, she got ejected from a club
Secondly, she smashed a car window
Thirdly she kicked the cop
Fourthly she spat on him
Fifthly, she attempted to hit him and grab his uniform.

Him hitting her arm repeatedly in order to gain compliance is not excessive force, if anything she was lucky she did't get batoned or CS'd. He used GOVERNMENT APPROVED techniques for gaining control of a violent person.
It's always amazing to me and my colleagues as to how hypocritical a large number of members of public are. They want a police force that arrests offenders and keeps violent people off the streets, but when we do that we get criticised because simply saying "you've been a bad girl, come with me" didn't work. I think a lot of people need to go out with the police on a Friday night and spend some time around them at kicking out time, and see for themselves the rubbish we have to put up with, from people like that woman.
