Who told you not to pay the tax? Brother?
Sister?
Unless it was HMRC (and you have it in writing) then you're stuffed.

Who told you that you did not have to pay tax? Did you sign a form P46 and give truthful information on it? If so, it is not your responsibility, but the employer's. However, I'm really groping in the dark with that answer. We need more information to help you.

Unless you have proof that you were told not to pay tax, then you will have to pay it all back and probably a fine as well.
