I adopted an approx 2-yr-old cat. The rescuer that I got him from swears all he ate was Iams Hairball. Well for the first week, he wouldn't touch it. I tried everything, mixing it with a little tuna juice even, balling it up in wet food. He won't touch it. So I tried a few others, no deal. I finally found Whiskas and I'm worried that it isn't good enough for him. What do you think? Should I keep trying others? He has now reached the point where if I give him canned food, he eats it, then it comes up all over the place, so I gave up on that.

Try the cat on some QUALITY canned food. Wellness and Natural Balance come in 3oz cans and have quite a few varieties in each line. For now go for the straight meat ones maybe with a little fish and stay away from beef for now too (it doesn't agree with all cats). The turkey and chicken are best for starters. Lick Your Chops, Blue, Avoderm, By Nature Organic are also brands to try.

The grocery store varieties and even Science Diet use by-product meat which is treated with chemicals as that can cause vomiting in some cats.

I have never had a problem with vomiting or diarrhea using those brands of canned food and canned food is the best choice for a male cat to forestall the possibility of urinary problems.

Go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's articles titled "Why Cats Need Canned Food" and "Selecting a Good Commercial Cat Food" for a veterinarian's take on these issues in cat diet and nutrition.

Yes cats are funny about their food, often changing their preferences. One way you can perhaps do it is by mixing a small amount of Felix into the Whiskas and then over the next couple of weeks increase the amount of Felix. If your cat still won,t touch the felix try other flavours if that fails then you just have to accept your cat,s change of taste. Add some biscuits to the meat as well to give extra vitamins and to help keep the bones and teeth strong

Whiskas is crap food. Buy high quality food from a pet store. I bought a sample bag of by Nature cat food and my cat loves it. I will switch to that after her bag of Nutro Natural Choice Indoor Complete care is gone. Even the Nutro Natural Choice would be a huge improvement to your cat from Whiskas. I also bought a bag of Felidae which my cat has to eat up. That food is really healthy too, but I think she prefers by Nature more.

Try to feed your cat a teaspoon of canned food and add a bit of water to it and heat it for a few seconds once or twice a day. This will help prevent urinary problems.

Whiskas are fine although you may want to try and give him some hairball treats. One other thing to remember with cats is that they have extremely sensitive stomachs and the more you change their food the better the chance they will throw up.

Whiskas is not a good food. It's full of by-products and grain fillers (which cats can't digest properly, so the protein in it doesn't do them much good).

Go to a pet store and look for some foods such as Nutro Natural Choice, California Natural, Merrick... They are much betterfor your cat.

at wal-mart or stores sell Hartz Hairball remedy good, just put a ribbon on paw daily, until stop throwing up no hairball, then once a week after that, hairball foods maybe ok but still can get hairballs, foods for hairballs usually just have more fiber or psyllium (like metamucil), if throwing up and diarrhea (and fever) may be sick and vet, get a book on cat care

i have one cat that got finicky and skinny with thyroid problems, i know whiskas veal and sometimes lamb and rice he doesn't throw up, also try Iams regular chicken and lamb and rice (easy on digestive tract) just the original not the hairball one, i noticed mine has not been throwing up with 9 lives liver and bacon and 9 lives chicken, fish flavors he sometimes throws up (i think they sometimes use fish not fit for human consumption and they overcook to kill spoilage), also try boiled white meat chicken or some chicken breast from fried chicken, they like that, but give a little at a time, or if they eat too much can throw up (stay away from tuna, they like but i know they throw up sometimes with that), try white meat chicken, lean ham, lean porkchop, or a little bacon sometimes lol

also at pet stores sell Science Diet Sensitive Stomach, i had one older cat he liked that and didn't make him throw up, and can moisten dry.

make sure no tooth problems, sometimes don't want to eat or drink if bad tooth

Whiskas isn't one of your better brands. I recommend sticking with feeding him canned food, but you should investigate the better quality brands that you can only find in pet stores.

Vomiting isn't horribly unusual when a cat's diet is changed. And it isn't necessarily indicative of bad food.

Check out the list of good quality foods in the link below and try them out. If your cat is finicky, you may end up wasting a bit of money until you find one that he likes, but once you do, you'll find it's very much worth it.

The kittie might have just ben upset over the transition.....
Sometimes they will not eat when they are upset.
I personally can't afford to feed those expensive foods.I have 3 cats and a child to feed!
I give my older cat temptations hairball treats every other day.He does fine on that.
Good luck with your new kitty!
