My kids and I were talking about this just the other day, and after much discussion, we've concluded that, despite advances, things have remained pretty much the same..

It may at times seem as if the world is worsening, but there are more people to add to the problems. The ratio of crime to population has probably remained fairly constant, but with such easy access to the news media, and the ability to get stories from the most remote areas, it seems as though crime has gotten out of control.

In short, we are more aware.

In regards to health care and longevity, we've made wonderful strides. In many areas, people are healthier and living longer, the death rates for newborns and children has decreased, smallpox has been eradicated, polio~very nearly. Persons afflicted with HIV are living full lives before ever succumbing to AIDS, many cancers are very treatable, the survival rates skyrocketing...I could go on.

We've become more aware of our surroundings. Steps are being taken to slow the advances of global warming, we're more ecologically in-tune. More people have access to quality education than ever before.

There are still too many people dying unnecessarily in wars, of starvation and through violent crimes. Too many people go to bed hungry at night, and many people have no job, and no place to call home.

This seems to cancel out some of the advances, so once again, I'd have to say that things have remained about the same. Small changes here and there, larger ones elsewhere, and setbacks somewhere else tend to keep things balanced out.

For humans in general it's getting better. We live longer, have fewer health problems, better education, better access to clean water, food, etc.

Although a significant number live in poverty with limited access to the above, they are becoming a smaller and smaller proportion of the overall population - largely because things are improving in the less developed world, although far, far too slowly.

On the other hand the perception is that everything is getting worse. Although that's nothing new.

better, because I've heard that our youngest generation, is the generation that will really change things. I believe it ! We hear about all the horrible things going on in the world right now, but, has anybody been noticing what a great bunch of kids the 9 and belowers are ? They are learning things at such a fast rate ! They care about their planet. (Catholic, but that has nothing to do with it.)

subscribe huh? lol

thats a funny way of putting it ^^

I subscribe to common sense, and with 9 years of islamic education, I know what common sense in religion entails.

As for the question, I think the world is getting better in terms of awaking to certain things, like pollution and global warming, and human rights policies, and democracy and universalism, while portions of the world are losing their moral codes because theyre forced to work around materialistic gains and have lives that revolve around consumption.

I am a Jehovahs Witness. The world is getting worse and will continue until Jehovah brings an end to this wicked system. The reason for this is because we are living in the last days. The apostle Paul tells us that “in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here,” and adds:

“Men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God.” We see this all the time!

Paul then tells us to turn away from such. (2 Tim. 3:1-5) Do we not see this lack of real love, this “self first” attitude accentuated throughout the world today? It contributes greatly to the critical problems of the times.

Jesus foretold that most people would ignore the evidence that we are living in the last days. The destruction of the wicked will come suddenly and unexpectedly. Like a thief in the night, it will catch most people by surprise. (1 Thessalonians 5:2) Jesus warned: “As the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark; and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be.”—Matthew 24:37-39

Jesus told his listeners: “Pay attention to yourselves that your hearts never become weighed down with overeating and heavy drinking and anxieties of life, and suddenly that day be instantly upon you as a snare. For it will come in upon all those dwelling upon the face of all the earth. Keep awake, then, all the time making supplication that you may succeed in escaping all these things that are destined to occur, and in standing [with approval] before the Son of man.” (Luke 21:34-36) It is wise to take Jesus’ words to heart. Why? Because those having the approval of Jehovah God and “the Son of man,” Jesus Christ, have the prospect of surviving the end of Satan’s system of things and of living forever in the marvelous new world that is so close at hand!—John 3:16; 2 Peter 3:13.

Do not be deceived by this world’s propaganda that promises a bright tomorrow for this system. God promises its end. Whom are you going to believe? For your everlasting happiness listen, learn and then do what God requires of you, for “the world is passing away and so is its desire, but he that does the will of God remains forever.”—1 John 2:17.

Bipedal primates are making the world suffer. As more of them arise the world suffers more. Once they have destroyed themselves the world will be fine. Unfortunately there will be many, many other species going out with them.
