My 16 year old daughter recently started to "date" a 15 year old boy... this is her first boyfriend (and his first girlfriend). So far we haven't allowed them to actually go anywhere without a parent present... and we're trying to "monitor" them at all times... but myself and the other Mom are really nervous about the two of them being alone together for any period of time... mainly because they're so "lovey-dovey" with each other, even in front of us (arms constantly around one another, holding hands, etc) . My husband is completely beside himself about it. It's hard. I don't think you're ever really ready to see your "kid" start dating, at any age. Even as an adult, they're still your baby. I guess all you can do is give them the knowledge and hope they use it wisely.

Kids are not encouraged to date till they have reached a maturity state. There's no best age as what I can see. It's very much depends on the way you love your kids and how much you love them. Your love for your kids will actually help you to determine whether he/she will be safe enough to be on dates with the other party.

I really don't think that your kids should be dating each other!

Okay, I know that's not what you meant, but it's what you wrote.

Naturally, everything depends on the maturity level of your child and your comfort level with who the child is seeing, when, and where.

Dating in a group situation (movies, rollerskating, etc) can be in the 14-16 age range. Couples dating, 16-17. Be sure that your kids understand safer sex practices and encourage them to wait until they are adults to engage in sexual relations. Remember, hormones run rampant in the teen years!

If I had the chance to control this again...

I'd say 14 or 15, (with a group...like to a movie, or with parents) (which is about when I did say okay),

but where I went wrong was....

Don't let them date every day...keep a distance and make them do other things besides seeing their girlfriend or boyfriend. This holds true until they are out of high school.

Wish you luck!

Usually 16 is a good age but it depends on their maturity level and if they are responsible. I would talk with my child about dating and the rules and guidelines before I would let him or her date.

17, with a curfew of midnight. If they are going to be late for some reason, I would expect a call ASAP with an explanation. There are a lot of kooks out in the world. Also, I would not permit dating on a school night, period, unless it had to do with a homework assignment at the library.

When you feel that their hatred for you not letting them do what they want (which is inevitable part of growing up) is more damaging to them than all those things that you think MIGHT happen to them if they start dating, and always be an optimist, kids are responsible by nature if you believe in them

I would say around 15/16. Around that time they get very impatient with the parent, and by that time they should know well enough how to act and deal with problems. It has to be before 18 though, because that's usually when they're exposed to more people and more heartbreakers.
