There is a 'test' at the Alcoholics Anonymous website that can help people see if alcohol is affecting their life, perhaps you could persuade your partner to take the test:
http://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/newcomer/isaa4u.shtml
There is no set limit after which someone is an alcoholic. It isn't how much you drink, it is how it affects you. Your partner could just be someone who enjoys a drink to relax but is able to limit it. My partner drank far more than me, but I was the one with the problem.
If your partner decides that he needs support, he can get in touch with Alcoholics Anonymous
Tel: National Helpline: 0845 769 7555

I don't think it makes a difference if he is drinking at home or in the pub. If he is drinking 5 or 6 pints a week then thats ok but if he is drinking that amount each time he visits the pub then yes he has a bit of a problem.

Personally, I don't think he has a "PROBLEM" as such, - but he COULD reduce the AMOUNT that he drinks! Twenty-four PINTS, in just FOUR visits to the pub, is a LOT! I like a drink, myself, - but, it would take me TWICE that time, to drink THAT much!

my goodness, the answers i see so far - "NOT A PROBLEM?!?!" five or six pints a night 4 times a week is not relaxing. that is 8 cans a day. way too much for someone just looking to unwind. that is alcoholism. i've done that much in a day, and it's too much for daily drinking, and I can drink a 750mL bottle of vodka to myself in a night. and besides, he's fat as hell, is he not? bad for his body, bad for your eyes, bad bad bad... :(

Your better half is the only individual who can definitely upward thrust up and say that he has a eating concern... yet definite, he does. till he realizes it particularly is a concern, he won't stop or get help. YOU, on the different hand, can get help by technique of attending alanon conferences -- alanon is a help team for persons whose lives have been plagued by technique of somebody else's eating. alanon is a international-extensive team, so i'm specific you will detect conferences on your section. i do no longer understand why you will marry somebody who has a eating concern in the 1st place, hon. it particularly is a problematic highway to tow. possibly you have under no circumstances been uncovered to alcoholism formerly? all and sundry who beverages up on your guy does, and who wets the mattress, has an exceptionally extensive difficulty.... preserve YOU.. no one else will.

believe it or not it's a common misconception, but most people think that someone who may need to have a beer after work just to relax isn't an addict, but newsflash they are. if they are regularly drinking, no matter how small or how large just to relax, let go, etc. they are dependant on alcohol and its not good.
