Usually we eat them while they're still infants, so there's really no risk of that.

My children are free to make their own choices. I would encourage them to make their choice CAREFULLY, though, through a lot of study as to EXACTLY what the religion's beliefs are, and what it entails. I would also encourage them to study the beliefs of other religions. I would want them to enter into it with some education, and not just jump in blindly. I encourage them to do the same thing with every endeavor in their lives.

If they had researched what they wanted to believe and practice, I would have no problem with that (nor with anyone who did the same).

One of the biggest problems I have with religion is that a vast number of people don't *choose* their religion; they're born into it. "I believe in God cuz my pappie told me to" isn't a valid reason to believe, and to coin an increasingly abused term, it's intellectually dishonest.

IF I had children, I would give them the freedom to choose the religion they wanted to follow. That's how my parents raised me. I attended Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Jewish, and Unitarian services. I decided on my own that I didn't want to follow any religion. My parents were fine with my choice.

I intend to teach them about all different belief systems. and then they can choose - however i would never force one specific religion upon them in the first place

Interesting.

I would probably tell them of and about all the various religions through the ages at length and then ask 'why this one?'.

I would ask for a psychiatric evaluation. Schizophrenia often starts with puberty. I would want them to get all the help they could get for early treatment.
