One thing that bananas have a great deal of is potassium. Potassium is like the off switch to your nerve messages and sodium (found in salt) is the on switch. If you are low on potassium (too much diarrhea or vomiting can do it as can some disease or body dysfunction; also elderly people often take potassium) one thing is cramps in arch of feet or legs. I believe that cramps {like a charlie horse} are a common expression of low potassium.
I believe that in the Gulf War, there was chemical warfare that activated the potassium (on switch) and prevented sodium (off switch) from being usable. What this meant was that a soldier contaminated would start convulsing as his body's on switch was open. It would take less than 5 Min's for the body to exhaust its energy supply and the soldier would be dead. Unconfirmed rumors said that the soldiers had to carry IV Valium to inject fellow soldiers who started this convulsing because medics couldn't get to them quick enough. If this unconfirmed rumor is true I believe that it is the first time that we have had to have non-medical personal administer treatment to their fellow soldiers.
Your bananas have the potassium which turns off your muscles like turning off a light. Sodium turns it on.
Hope that helps some.

Bannanas are very high in potassium and give you alot of energy, they are a complex carbohydrate which means they give you energy over a period of time instead of all at once (therefore keeping you full for longer).
