What is best for me isn't necessarily good for you. I have Saints and not many are prepared to handle their needs. Any dog with proper care and training can be an excellent pet. You truly do get back what you put in to an animal and more. Take all of your factors in mind when picking a pet. Cost, size, training, hair etc.

There is no best breed for a pet dog. It all depends on what exactly you want. Large or small; a dog to walk all over the hills with you or one to laze around the house; one to train for competition or one just to come when you call in the park?
The best dog in the world is the one you love. You can have 2 dogs of the same breed and they can be totally different personalities. A lot depends on you. How did you treat the dog ? How well did you train it? Puppies want to please. They are amazingly malleable. Just use a bit of common sense in choosing. If you want a child to walk the dog don't buy a Rottie They can be great pets but they're big. Personally I love Border Collies but I wouldn't recommend them to everyone. They definitely need training and exercise but they more than repay the effort you put in.

Without a doubt 'Greyhounds' make the best pets! They have the most gentle & endearing personalities & contrary to belief, they require little excersise, preferring to veg out on the hearth rug! Also, most will live in perfect harmony with other pets, cats included! I have 3 dogs, one being a retired racing Greyhound (the other two are cross-breeds, which i agree also make wonderful pets) & in return for two meals a day, a sedate walk when i get home from work & a bit of fuss, I receive that unconditional love money just couldn't buy! In a perfect world everyone would home a retired Greyhound!

It depends on the person and where you live and how you live. I have a Sheltie - we live on a place large enough for her to run and jump and do things Shelties like to do. If you live in an apartment maybe you want a smaller dog. If you don't want to go for long walks and play outside with your dog maybe you want a breed that is a little quieter than a Sheltie. If you have children or have friends or relatives with children that visit often pick a breed that likes kids. There are lots of good web-sites that list dog breeds and their temperaments and physical attributes. Remember owning a dog can be expensive too - so think about that before acquiring one. Will you be able and willing to give him good veterinarian care as well as feed, water, bath, and kennel him when you can't take him with you and have to be gone.

There are so many great breeds this is an impossible answer. In my lifetime I've owned the following:
Doberman
Chow
Toy Fox Terrier
Border Collie
Australian Shepperd
Black Lab
Pit bull (have 1 now)
Rott/Choc Lab mix (have 1 now)
I love them all but I'm partial to the Pit bull. They don't deserve the reputation some people have given them lately. They are wonderful animals. They are loyal, playful, and smart. Any dog can be trained to be vicious. A dog is a product of their environment, much like a person.

It is the breed that best suits your way of life. If you have a large yard and lots of room and time to exercise a dog then choose a large breed such as a labrador. If you have an apartment and very limited and can only walk the dog a couple of times a day you may want to choose a small breed such as a pomeranian. You may also want to take inconsideration if you have children around. Both breeds I have listed are usually good with children. Again...the best dog for a person is the one that really excites "you" then you know you will really do what it takes to care for it as it needs.

Go to the humane society. They have any breed of dog you would want. I have adopted 3 . They are very good dogs. Some are mixed breed and some aren't. The mix breed is just as good or better than a pure bred.

Depends on the owner. I love most animals and they know it.
Pet attraction, and the attraction of the pet to the owner,
creates the bond that makes the dog the very best breed
that the owner could have selected for a pet.

I have had several dogs and dog breeds over the years and though I love labs and golden retrievers I particularly like mongrel dogs and the best one of those is a cross between the golden and the lab because they are super smart, easy to train, mild tempered, family oriented dogs.
Sometimes called goldadores they have the best qualities of both breeds

a mixed breed dogs make the best pet, plus they are usually healthier. You know every pure breed dog comes with a list of things wrong with them.
