I purchased a freeview box over a year ago but have not used it in a while. I tried to re install it but it said that no channels were found.

Would i ariel booster work?

you can go on the http://www.freeview.co.uk/home web site and find out the signal strength in your area. you could also try an indoor digital ariel which work well with freeview. Argos give a 16 day moneyback guarantee so if it didn't help you haven't lost anything.

I don't think an aerial booster would help you. The reason for this is that a booster only strengthens an analogue signal whereas a freeview box needs a strong signal from a digital aerial. There are options to deal with this problem. You could try re-scanning your box again to see if you can find anything. This will probably not work, but costs nothing, so is worth a try. Next try the booster. Again, it will probably not work, but costs nothing. If that doesn't work, you may need to get a new aerial, or an attachment to your current one, that works with digital broadcasts. This may cost anything up to £100, unless you know someone who can do it for you at "mates rates". Sorry to give you such bad news, but it's the only thing that works.

Have you checked that free view is accessible in your area. That's your first move, if it is some areas have access to more than one transmitter, it's possible that the free view transmitter is not the one you're aligned to. Look at some outdoor Ariel's on your neighbours houses and see where they point. If you can get to yours try to point it in the same direction if it's not already. Good Luck.
