Finnish. Why? Because it is a mysterious language which is not related to most European languages. People say their ancestors moved from Asia to settle in what is now Finland. I know it is one of the most difficult languages to learn, but I think it's worth the effort.

My favorite language is Esperanto. I love the dream behind it, to promote world peace through everyone speaking the same neutral second language. I also love the fact that learning Esperanto has allowed me to speak to people from all over the world, from many different cultures, without falling prey to the world's opinion of US citizens at large, that we expect everyone to learn English.

My first choice would be Spanish, it's the most romantic language!! I can understand a little but I can't speak it.
I'd also like to learn Japanese, Turkish, Persian and Hungarian.

Sanskrit.
I made some attempt to do that some time, but did not complete it.
Your mission to acquire the best of the past will be incomplete without a learning of Sanskrit and its literature.
