My primary school (elementary school) principal returned from war service, where he experienced unimaginable horrors. (As did my grandfather).

When my primary school pincipal arrived at my school, he threw out all the accumulated rules and regulations. He declared that there are only two:

"Use your common sense!"

and

"Be kind and considerate to other people!"

As an elegant and simple encapsulation of morality for children, this worked very well as far as I can tell. Discipline was strict, but there were only two principles to learn. I still consider these my moral roots. Any comments?

Adia, the problem is that when you trace back every logical argument there's ever been about what is right and wrong (whether through relativism or absolutism) our final common station is axiom - an agreed starting point, or common sense. *wag wag wag wag wag wag wag*

Bobby, as a fellow canine-lupine creature I like the way you think. However the Golden Rule has a flaw: it assumes that what one person must like is a reliable guide to the needs of another. Be careful of this one, although in practice it's not a bad approximation of a moral principle.

weeeeellllll, some of the more interesting scientific disciplines defy common sense. This is partly because what is common for us (in terms of scale, time sense, etc) might not be so common for the rest of the universe.

But in general I think those are OK guidelines. Although, if you're a decent human being do you think you need commandments at all?

Those are good :)

But my religion has 7 core beliefs.

1) That Anack is the God of God's.

2) Anack and Kia are to be held above the Beta and Omega God's.

3) After death you are reborn.

4) Recognition of the darker side of the divine.

5) The Holy days of worship are on the nights of the Full and New Moon.

6) Individuality is Embraced not shuned.

7) Follow the Golden rule, Do unto Others as you would have them Do unto You.

Matthew 22:40 - On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. 41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. 43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? 46 And no man was able to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask him any more questions.

I think that "Be kind and considerate to other people!", would cover just about everything.
And throw in some common sense for good measure.

my understanding is Jesus said the only commandments that matter are love god and love thy neighbor as thyself.

To me that means that if you want to go back to father choose love/fellowship in all you do

What if heaven and hell are exactly the same except for one difference? What ever you picture in your head heaven to be, imagine hell to be the same except for one difference. Everything you can do in heaven you can do in hell except for one difference. The difference is love or dominion. If you choose love you are in heaven, you are sharing love/joy/fellowship, absolute bliss in all you do.

If you choose dominion you are in hell, everyone will be dominion bent, acting without regard to anything but personal pleasure, personal gain, exercising power over others. Everyman for himself in all that is done. Everything else is the same.

Now which path do/will you choose? LOVE or DOMINION

P.S. Doesn't hell feel a lot like earth?
P.S. S. If you choose dominion click on exit, there is nothing here for you.

Well, Jesus summed it up into one statement. To love God as in the 1st of the Ten Commandments. If you love God and put Him first in your life , relying and trusting in Him for everything , then you will automatically obey all the rest.

Woof! Woof woof woof woof woof! Woof woof! *Growl*

(Which means: Common sense don't always work, common sense once told us the earth was flat. But the second one is good. *I'm hungry*)

i didn't take the time to read all of the crap that was involved with your question. But. There should be one commandment "Be Good or you will go to hell dumb a s s."

The final one would be enough. In other words, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
