Avast - anti virus is good Adaware - for spyware (lavasoft the maker i believe) Zone Alarm - firewall

If you use Windows XP and have service pack 2. Go to microsoft.com and download Windows Defender.
If not go to www.download.com and download one from there, mainly under the most popular downloads category.
