I have several. My husband is US Army, and we're currently serving in Germany. He gets a little angry with the bureaucracy that is the military, and his platoon sergeant is a jerk, but other than that, he's cool with it. He wants to go career, if he can get his weight back down (he gained a lot after having a series of grand mal seizures, compounded by medication that made him gain weight, and the fact that he was stuck on a desk job due to his condition) and pass a PT test. His platoon sergeant, despite being told by several doctors that my husband's condition is VERY understandable, refuses to listen. He seems to think that my husband is just a failure. Really nice guy. Really.

My cousin is a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. I don't really talk to him often enough to find out about his experiences.

And then of course, most of my husband's and my friends are US Army. Their experiences are varied; from those who want to go career military, and those who are counting the days until they ETS. We have friends at Fort Riley, Fort Lewis, Fort Hood, Fort Campbell, Fort Knox, Fort Drum, Fort Lee and Fort Bragg. I think we also have friends in Korea. And of course it goes without saying that we have friends who are currently serving in Iraq.

As far as MY experiences go with the military, sometimes I really think they don't know what they're doing. And the medical care is sometimes less than satisfactory. When we PCS'd over here to Germany from Fort Lewis, we were constantly stonewalled when we had questions. As a matter of fact, we had to really WORK to get answers. Oh, and the legal aide? They don't know what they're doing. I asked for an experienced attorney, and they gave me this KID who was younger than my husband and I. He was like twenty-two. Pretty sad.
Overall though, I wouldn't trade my life for anything. It's sometimes good, sometimes bad, and I take the bad with a grain of salt.

I am currently serving in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant. I am at the Pentagon right now. I just got back from doing a tour in Indonesia.

The hardest part emotionally is not being able to maintain relationships because of the constant moving.

But so far it has been worth it, by far.

As far as this goes though, I mostly respect the wives/ husbands and kids. We volunteer for it, but they have to live it in support of us. I feel like it takes a strong family to survive that.

Yes, my younger sister is in the Air Force. She doesn't really say alot, but that she likes the money she makes and the college education she has received. She was in Italy for a long time but is now stationed in Arizona. She joined right out of high school at age 19, so this has been her whole life, as our father was also in the military. Personally I would never join because I feel it is not a job for a woman, but my sister is a feminist. This is just my opinion though.

My oldest son is in the Air Force National Guard. He has been over seas 5 times. I am so afraid something will happen to him when he is gone. He very much believe's in what he is doing, and after many years of this I do support him. He won't tell me what he has experienced while in Iraq etc. He served in "desert storm", and I am very proud of him. Last year in November he has just come back from Iraq after 10 months. Every day I prayed to God to bring him back safley & he was not hurt.
Thank God. He is very proud to serve this country, and I am very proud he is my son.

I have a cousin in Baghdad. He states the troops have very high morale over there. And that the news media has everything all wrong.
He says nearly all the people love our guys and delight in them. And that most of the troops are not against being there at all and are proud to serve their country and help the Iraqi people.
Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

Yes I do and we keep in contact through messenger,I send him pictures of his son which is a grandson to my best friend and he knows we are praying for all the military to come home.
The military personnel is not allowed to talk about what they are going through, this I know because my son is a gulf war vet and their conversations can be picked up through satellite to the enemy. Mark talks about how he misses his son.

I have a friend, a younger brother of my old friend who is in Afghanistan. He left a few weeks ago. I haven't heard anything back yet. But you can be sure, he promised me before he left, he would bring Mullah Dadullah's head back as a trophy AND help the people there too..

i have 3 cousins in the military
they are air force and one is pilot to the president
i am a pacifist myself , so i struggle with my own feelings towards war and my feelings towards my cousins ... this does not mean i do not worry about them or that i am not proud of them
i dont know their own feelings personally on what is happening , as im not in direct contact ... only via their mother who sits each day worrying about each ( but with pride )

My cousin is in Iraq right now. (Air-force)
I only met my 2 cousins once (at 16) .

One day I was talking to a marine and he was telling me about his scar & how he gets nightmares & how he has to go back. I burst into tears.
I don't want my cousin or anyone going though that.

I hate this damn war.
