hi there!

looks like everyone needs a lesson in speedometers!

when you go in reverse the speedometer also turns in reverse (mechanical). the odometer will go backwards(for up to one mile only) and the speedometer goes backwards also. You can never see this as the speedometer goes back to zero and then stops. There is no negative readings on a speedometer.

On a newer car with electronic or digital speedometer; you can go in reverse and the pointer will register speed in that direction!

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

On older cars with a mechanical speedometer cable the speed won't register. On newer cars with electronic sensors they will. Generally if the car has a computor that tells the car when to shift it will work. Some vehicles started this in the early 90's.

Speedometers are made for operation when they move forward or when they are in forward torque and proceed from 0 km/hr but when they are in reverse the speedometer cannot move in backward direction that is in negative direction

Did you ever see the movie "Ferris Bueler's Day Off"? They don't work in reverse so that you can't turn it back, and cheat when You sell it.

They should turn forward even if you were going backward if they were truly accurate. If they turned backward it would be dishonest.
