I've had dandruff/other scalp problems for years, and I've tried Selsun Blue, Head & Shoulders, and Neutrogena T/Gel. The T/Gel seemed to work for the dandruff, but I now have cradle cap-like symptoms. My hair is also fairly long - how will this factor into combing flakes out?

Use colder water when you shower too. If it's too hot, that helps dry out your scalp. Trust me on this one. been there, once i stopped using such hot water the problems went away.

You might have to cut some hair too.

Arbonne has some great products that are formulated to meet your specific need. The self adjusting daily shampoo and conditioner are formulated with natural tree oil. Native to Australia, tea tree oil is known as “The wonder from down under.” :-) This natural, super-potent oil treats dry, flaky scalp, so that both the head and hair are left nourished, and flake-free. It's botanically based, pure, and safe with key ingredients including nanospheres, nettle, hops, sage and thyme extracts, vitamins A, C, E. If you're open to trying a free sample, I'll be happy to send you one.

Have you tried a prescription shampoo? Sometimes that is the only thing that works for some people.
