I have spoken to a guy for about a month on the net. Then we met a few times. i like him for who he is, his view on life, he is an amputee and has gradually got sicker and sicker and now is in hospital. They have taken part of his other foot. He doesnt want me to contact him & I find it frustrating as I want to be part of his life. I messaged him and he said he needs space and he will contact his friends when he gets out. What do I do? i would like to contact him every few days just to say hello I care. Do I? In my past I found it hard to let go and this time I am afraid to contact him cause he doesnt want me to, but I want also to be there for him.

I think he knows you're there for him. Maybe he's embarassed by his condition or does need space. I'd give it to him and wait to see if he's ready when he gets out. By your own admission you have trouble letting go. It will help you to practice this while helping him. It's hard, but give it a try.

Well, you are really such a nice person. And you do care about this guy very much. You should be patient for any resistance that you are going to face from his side while you are trying to see him. May you can call him a couple of times before you plan to visit him. And I think he also cares about you but he is just not in a normal mood because of his sickness and doesn't seem to be ready to entertain this kind of situation at this moment but he surely needs some one.
So don't give up and try your best to see him as soon as possible.

sounds like ur being a great friend to this person.....perhaps your friend is very upset.frustrated with what is happening. because of this, he doesnt want anything to do with people. maybe he needs some time to be alone, be angry, and get it all out of his system. hopefully when those days/weeks/months pass, he will feel that he wants to go back to how he was with his friends.
u also need to remember that he is going through some major changes and subsequently needs time alone to comtemplate and think about things. let him know u are there for him, in the end its his choice. u dont want to drive him away from u.....good luck with it

i think that he likes and cares for u. i also think that he is embarrassed and does not want u to see him at this low point in his life. i also believe thats y he says he wants space. i can also tell that u care. extend ur self to him and make sure he knows how much he means to u and that u r always here for him if and when he is ready. and then......respect his wishes n give him space.
