If a person wore an unnecessary hearing aid they could potentially damage their hearing. The internal settings of the device would be the deciding factor in if damage occurred and how much. The person would not be able to hearing things they couldn't without the device. Hearing aids are designed to make things louder - that's it!

The eardrum would not explode, the damage would occur to the inner ear and would be permanent and irreversible.

If you are having trouble hearing in a noisy environment or classroom setting then you should speak with an audiologist about a personal amplification system known as an "FM system." There are FM systems designed specifically for use by people with normal hearing who show difficulty in noisy environments.

Overall, no one should wear a hearing aid unless it was fit specifically to their individual hearing loss by a professional licensed to do so. No one with normal hearing should wear a hearing aid.
