GENESIS 9:12-16--"And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud, and I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth."

So wiping all life off the face of the planet is off the menu, but a few fatalities every now and again is ok ?

C'mon, I'm really trying to get views here!

This sounds like a 'small print' quibble to me. What do YOU all think? What for example would have to happen for YOU to consider the covenant to be broken? Is wiping out 90% of life ok. How about 99%? (After all Noah survived so it wasn't 100% last time was it?)

More answers/ details please!

Hi Nobody,

I don't think you can consider all natural disasters to be directly Gods doing. He has created this world which is prone to natural disasters which will happen, well .. naturally.

If you were to blame God every time someone was killed by the weather where would it end? Someone goes out playing golf in a thunderstorm and gets hit by lightning, should his relatives ask why did God take him from us?

However, God does have the ability to use natural disasters to do his will if he wishes. I don't think wiping all life off the face of the planet is off the menu - he's just not going to do it with a flood next time! God still has an arsenal of meteors, ice ages etc up his sleeve.

Interesting question. God said He would never destroy mankind by a deluge of water again and so far that has been the case. We are still around.
Further, many floods and bad weather conditions are actually a result of human activity on this planet not God Himself. We cut down rainforests and the bare soil become dust bowls and change the local climate and weather of that area.
We spew massive amounts of pollutants into the atmosphere and increase the carbon dioxide and sulphuric acid content.
We dump waste in the seas and destroy large areas of ocean sea life.
God is not responsible for the disasters that in recent times have befallen on manking for:

(James 1:13) When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone.

and God will eventually not allow this condition the earth is in to continue forever because as the Apostle John recorded in
Revelation 11:18 "....and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” Jehovah will end those who are making the earth a bad place to live.

When Jehovah's Day arrives He will bring to ruin this old system of injustice and greed and bring about his heavenly rule upon the entire earth and restore it back to paradisic conditions where his faithful people will dwell upon forever.

Part of your quote that says "and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh." It's a promise not to wipe out everything with a country-wide / global flood, not "there will never be another flood".

If people build towns and cities in flood-susceptible areas and don't spend enough to build appropriate defences against severe weather, how is that God's fault?

You really must stop thinking that the Bible is the truth! You will get more truth from the Janet & John readers. Just remember that some Americans even believe that the earth was created 6000 years ago, even though they are forever digging up fossilised dinosaurs that are millions of years old! What sort of credence can anyone like that have? Rainbows are caused by the refraction of light through water; God has nothing to do with it! Sorry.

God said that he would not bring a flood to destroy "all flesh", i.e. all humankind. He never said that we would never have floods ever again. There are floods, but none that wipe out the human race.

However, I will not go into the absurdity of Genesis from a scientific viewpoint as it is blatantly obvious
