What does it mean when a customer says do you want my phone for the company or for you?

Im a cashier one day a guy cam up to me i asked for his savings card he said his wife had it. I told him if he could give me his phone number, he said yes, for the company or for you. I was like for the company and then he said you can have it too and he closed one eye does that mean he liked me? Or what does it mean?

He was trying to be funny. For some reason a lot of people think they have to entertain the sales person. Problem is not all sales people are in on the joke, because they don't know the person well enough.

I was in Toys R Us last year doing some Christmas shopping and they ask you each time you check out for your phone number and zipcode (to send advertisements to your area). The guy in front of me got all guarded and starting freaking out asking why the girl wanted his phone number. The woman told him why yet he still kept acting bizarre. Finally I said, "Don't worry Sir, your wife won't get upset about the Toys R Us lady trying to have an affair with you....."

I think I only managed to confuse the guy even more, but he finally gave up the info and left.

Sounds like he was just flirting with you. Not necessarily a bad thing. He may have just wanted to make you blush. Should it happen again, tell him you want it so you can call his wife and tell her he's being naughty again.

I think he was just being funny. I have customers say this to me quite often, but I just laugh. He probably winked too, just for fun. I don't think he was being serious.
