You can find a pretty good example of these people in any Yahoo Christian chatroom. They say they believe in god, but then they proceed to tell you about how we all evolved from monkeys or how Jesus never existed and what not! Look I respect all beliefs, and if you want to be an athiest or an agnostic get some balls and say so! Don't be going around saying your a believer and have no clue what the bible teaches! I mean it is not that complicated. If you don't believe in the Holy scriptures and the principles they teach us about our Creation, our God, and especially our savior Jesus Christ and his life, death and ressurection. YOU CANNOT BE A CHRISTIAN! I can't make it any plainer than that! Sorry for the monolouge but listening to these phoney christians act like they have a clue really tends to frustrate me!

In most cases this is a family following. Children may have parents raised as Christians that just tell their kids what religion they are. Basically, they don't have a strong notion of what Christianity is.

Yesterday, I received an email saying something like this:

A church service was in progress when 2 men in black with guns came crashing in. "Those of you who will take a bullet for Jesus Christ can stay. Those who wouldnt, can leave" they shouted. Well, 20 were left after most fled.

"Ok pastor, the hypocrites have left. You can start the service now" they said...

There are 2 types of Christians - those who have been brought up Christian or those who merely go to church on a Sunday but have not had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ and do not KNOW God. These give Christianity a bad name because they call themselves Christians but do not serve the Lord. The spirit of God is NOT in them. Then there are those of us who are born again Christians and who the Lord slowly changes and delivers and begins to turn us into what He wants us to be - an image of Himself.

There are many, many people who have been brought up very very badly in God's name and they do not know God. If they did, they would not do the terrible things they do.

Born again Christians are NOT religious. Christians who do not know the Lord ARE religious. God detests religion because He wants us to have a personal relationship with Him.

Brian: As a Christian, I couldn't agree more with you. These types are called, "fence-sitters" - as he or she can not disprove Darwin's popularly taught Evolution nor can they present evidence of God's existence. This is why these types choose the middle road. I, could not in my rational mind heed anything written or said by any person "religious" or not - about these topics. There are a lot of dysfunctional religious people out there - with some bad theology. Atheists do not have an awareness of both sides of the God issue other than mere opinion but "religious" types are without excuse.

P.S. "BETTY" Hitler was the leader of the Nazi movement which was steeped in the Occult .

I believe that such people are victims of what many call "drilling." When these children are very young, Parents sometimes 'drill' certain beliefs into them, and in doing so they establish a label on the child. (example-Christianity) Many 'Christians' walk through life without ever having even picked up a bible, much less read one. But the label that their parents had 'drilled' on them, still stands. (example- "We're Christians, you're a christian, period") and often people are labeled Christians before they can even understand what being a Christian means, and they may stay that way all life through. That's what i think, anyway.

Well, I agree with you in principle, but in practice, it takes time to learn about the various aspects of Christianity. None of us know it all.

To call someone a phony Christian just because they may be unlearned or ignorant about some specifics isn't right. Christ decides whether we're sincere; we don't judge one another.

I understand that it can be detrimental and painful when people masquerade as being more knowledgeable or spiritual than they really are, but I don't feel that we have the right to criticize them that harshly for their errors. Correct them in a spirit of love if possible.

Point them to some of your resources; encourage them to read their Bibles more closely; invite them to examine the Scriptures with you.

God bless.

I know many people --besides myself-- who attended church, and found that they weren't required to study --or even to read-- the Bible. Yet, they could be baptized, supposedly as Christians. But there is So Much more to it than that! Salvation isn't dependent on a feeling that comes over one, or attendance --even if regular-- for religious instruction. To become a Christian, persons must do as Christ did. He studied the Scriptures diligently. At 12 years old he astounded the teachers in his Father's temple! He loved God, and (sinful) people, and sacrificed himself to bring them together again. Christians need to develop the same self-sacrificing attitude, and devote our lives to the furthering of God's purposes, much as their leader did. Though he paid the ultimate sacrifice, his followers since have also gone through persecutions in order to glorify God, & help others come to know him. It is not in their own power that Christians are able to endure all Satan throws at them. Only by total reliance on God. "However, how will they call on him in whom they have not put faith? How, in turn, will they put faith in him of whom they have not heard?" -- Romans 10:14,15
Knowing a person's name hardly qualifies them to claim having a meaningful relationship with that one. It is the same principle with a man's relationship with God. There are 2 articles that explain what God's pan is for dealing with this hypocrasy:

I was going to attempt to answer but you are just looking for people to agree with you. First of all I do not need the approval or guidance from another human being. I can assure you or anybody else I am not a confused Christian. If you think I am wrong that is your problem.

While I share your frustration, I don't agree with your approach. A Christian is someone who has been saved through a personal relationship with Jesus. That is it. Many Christians out there are poorly educated, misguided, confused. Are we to bash them, or gently guide them and help them grow? And for those who think they are Christians, because they have some religious beliefs, but don't know Christ, are we to yell at them for not knowing what they are talking about, or are we to gently probe and encourage them to evaluate their beliefs?

If we are called to be imitators of Christ, then let's do so, brother. Let's show God's passion and care for people, His strong desire to see people come to know Him, not yell at them for being misinformed and scare them away. That wouldn't be a good testimony, would it? Jesus didn't chase people away, He would challenge them, so they could examine themselves, but He didn't tell them to shut up.

Take care and God bless.

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

That seems pretty cut and dried to me, but I'm sure I'm not as knowledgable about Scripture as you are. Could you possibly direct me to the verse or verses that say I MUST believe in scientific creationism, or intelligent design, or whatever the "anti-Darwinism du jour" happens to be? I must've missed it.
