I mean, what belief of yours is so threatened that you have to attack other people for believing in something you dont?

I think that a part of this forum should be created especially for atheists. But I do understand your point. It is not because I hate atheists--my own mother is an atheist and doesn't really want to discuss religion, but she doesn't push her beliefs in my face and I don't push mine in her face. Live and let live.

However, if people want to flip out over Christmas decorations, Santa Claus, religious education, prayer in school, JWs at the door, Gideon bibles dropped off at school, and the Cross, they can get a life. I understand the perspective of the imam or rabbi who wishes to have his culture and holidays ackowledged. If a religious minority wants a Ramadan or Chanukkah display, let them have it. This doesn't infringe on anyone else's rights.

1) Being Atheist doesn't mean NOT to be Spiritual. Therefore, my friend, as an Atheist I have the right to be here.

2) We're not threatened by anything/anyone. We generally get attacked by religious bigots and simply defend ourselves. However, I must admit, there are some of us who're not better than any bigot, since they attack and show no respect towards Believers. Personally, I'm not one of them, so I'd appreciate if you could be more tolerant and less judgemental when addressing your questions to Atheists in general; thank you:)

Just like there are extreme Christians who want to shove their beliefs down people's throat, there are extreme Atheists that want to do the same. All Christians aren't like this and the same can be said for some Atheists.

This really had nothing to do with religion or anything. Some people just want to feel like they've enlightened someone whether they have or not (it's an ego thing) or they just want to feel intellectually superior to people they think don't have a clue about anything.

Plus, it's a free country and everyone is allowed to post on here. Debate is good. It's really good to question things and see other points of view. Insults aren't needed but, alot of people are mean spirited regardless of their beliefs. Nothing to do with faith or a lack thereof, that's just a human thing.

I was raised christian until high school and started asking questions that no one could answer and i got labeled everything from a trouble maker to a satanist for asking questions about the bible. I was not being a smart *** i had honest questions and got no answers so i went elsewhere and found the answers myself.

i am not intolerant i just don't understand how you can believe something that makes no sense just because its in the bible.

It sounds to me like you are the one being threatened. Faith just doesnt hold up to truth.

You should be free to believe in whatever you choose to--however when those who hold a certain belief try to tell others that they will be punished for not believing in exactly the same thing--then the person being threatened should have to right to question such a nasty stance--Also when those who cling to some out-dated standards try to retard mankind's progress by stopping progress---like stem-cell research--then society should not be made to suffer because of some embalmed religious prejudice.

Just because I am not religious doesn't mean I don't find religion an interesting subject. I don't believe in the gods from Greek mythology but find the subject interesting. Some people just are fascinated by many subjects and are interested in learning and debating about things. Debate is a healthy way to learn and to express yourself, that is why they use it in classrooms. Those who insult others aren't debating, they are just being rude, and there are those who are religious who do it also.

All I can say as a Christian is: If you think it's your bound duty to help someone to come to Christ, what better forum than a pack of atheists to do it in? I have already lead one Atheist to Agnosticism here. Hopefully there will be more, whenever the Holy Spirit moves. Peace, Tolerance and Love.

P.S.: to the atheist who thinks religious people should have no secular opinions, isn't there a separation of Church and State? I can have a"life" on multiple levels - on these two AND Art AND Music AND Science (don't broad brush me - I believe in the evolutionary THEORY - after all Darwin himself was a Christian lest you forget.)

Yeah... we shouldn't be able to have an opinion on a group to which we don't directly belong. The religious certainly wouldn't do that.

Honestly, you want atheists to stop sticking our noses in here? Get religious groups to stop sticking their noses in secular things, just a few examples :

Gay marriage
Abortion
Stem cell research
US law
My own freaking front porch

Do that, and I promise you, 100%, that you will see a DRAMATIC decrease in the number of atheists here. The ball is in your court.

By the way, with that attitude I certainly hope you've never been to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered section. If you have, you're *obviously* a closet homosexual, since you feel so threatened by them that you've visited the section, right?

Edit: Walter E: Unless you are somehow a religious *group*, which exactly what I said, if you care to look, don't try to accuse me that. Nor did I say a word about evolution. Did you even read what I wrote? As far as separation of church and state, sure there is, but it's completely one-sided. The government can make no law regarding religion, but if you think that the church has no effect on what laws are passed and what aren't, you are beyond deluded.

Atheists vs. Christians,
Liberals vs. Conservatives,
Vegetarians vs. Meat Eaters,

...the battles never cease. Just two sides who try to impose their values on the other, that's all. No one listens anymore, and I've noticed many don't know how to argue properly, either.

Even as you question Atheists' for attacking Christians, your question could be seen as an "attack" on them. Will the cycle ever end?

You've answered your own question, the key words being "And Spirituality". Spirituality is not necessarily connected to a religion, not to mention, Atheism IS considered a "Religion".
