They think we're good targets for conversion attempts. Atheists have contempt for us as supposed fence-sitters.

Mmm, maybe, maybe not. It's anecdotal. Most atheists don't advertise, in daily life, the fact that they're atheists due to the social stigma. So your anecdotal data may even be off.

On the other hand, Evangelicals (who are really into proselytizing), may see agnostics as potential converts, and leap at the chance to win one.

Friendly? As in cursing non-believers and trying to brainwash intelligent people with their gibberish?
Maybe its because of their friendly book that talks of slaughtering children and torturing people forever.

your assuming...Remember the rule .. Not everyone believes that way :)

I try to be friendly to all regardless of their believes . I am supposed to be showing an example and if I pick and choose , thats not being a good example..

Politicians like the "undecided" voter, who can still, they think, be swayed to their side. They figure that the majority of atheists will never convert, and they're right about that.

For the same reason that most people are more 'friendly' to those who are more like them; more in common. then too people tend to mistrust those who 'different'
