Have you witnessed a long lasting IR marriage? Does it exist?

I have a friend who her parents is a IR couple ( Arab man & white female). After 32 years of marriage the wife walked out on her man due to sudden financial struggle.

From what i have witnessed in my environment( close family friends, personal friends co-workers), interracial couples composed of 2 non-white people seemed to be more long lasting.

I can't help but wonder if IR marriages really do work. Have you ever witnessed an interracial marriage that lasted a very very long time, as in until death they are separated by death? Or the marriage lasted and they are old with grand kids and great grand kids?

Yes. My aunt is white and her husband is Vietmanese. I'm not sure how long they have been married but they have 2 kids ages 28 and 25. I know that they were together when they had the oldest so I would say maybe a little over 30 years. But he is about to die. He has hepatitis and his liver is horrible. The doctors gave him until Summer. He wants to die in Vietnam so they are all going to fly over their for the summer until he dies. Sad right?

But my parents have also been married just as long. And they are both white. My parents have 4 girls. Ages 27, 21, 11, and 8 and 2 grandsons ages 9 and 6. So I don't know if I totally agree that IR marriages last longer. I think it really just depends on the couple. Who they are and what they want out of life.

Marriage has nothing to do with race or color I dont think anyway. Marriage is a commitment between a man and woman and they have to work to make it last and be happy. Marriage is not easy between people of the same race or color. If 2 people love one another they will make thier marriage work. I do believe however that 2 different religious believes could be trouble especially when kids are involved.

I'm going to venture a guess here.... I think that you will not likely find any inter-racial marriages that are so old that they have great grand kids. Inter-racial marriages were frowned upon (and apparently still are, more so than *I* would have thought, judging from Jacky's answer) until more recently than that. That isn't to say they didn't happen, but they were not as common for certain.

Yes, I have. My ex boyfriends parents are not of the same race and they have been married for over 25 years. They likve in a community that is intermixed and supportive of interacial marriages. I myself do not understand where race and colour play into a loving relationship. There are, I guess families who still are not supportive of it. I just think that people need to wake up and realize that we are the same regardless of our race. The main thing is finding someone who shares the same values, morals and goals. I wouldn't care what race my fiance was (we don't know because he is adopted), I would still marry him.

I know one interracial couple whose hookup seems to work well. He is white, and she is very black. I do not know how long they have been together, but it has been at least several years.

i have never witnessed it and i consider it being an atrocity. i can't imagine me, being white, looking at black faces of my children if i married a black or arab.
